Wait for leaflets to come through your door. Read those. Make a decision based on your local mp.

ElephantsDontReadFantasy · 23/05/2024 06:27

I won’t tell you who to vote for. I will advise you to speak to your local candidates about the issues that matter to you and to read the party manifestos once they are out. Don’t ever devolve your thinking to others.

Perfect28 · 23/05/2024 06:29

Well look, to be frank we are in a two party system. You either want more of this or you want a change, it's not that complex.

Perfect28 · 23/05/2024 06:30

There's no point following pp advice to research and look at promises over specific issues, they can say and promise what they like at this stage, there's no accountability to it.

That doesn't really work though, because your vote counts at the local level not the national one. There are some seats which are Tory where the Lib Dems aren't that far behind, but Labour tends to get very few votes. So if you're voting tactically to get the Tories out, you'd be far better to vote Lib Dem in those seats.

RosaRoja · 23/05/2024 06:39

My local MP is standing down and they’ve got a new, similarly ghastly person. I wasn’t going to vote for the same Tory shite again anyway, but someone who hangs out with Liz Truss and bangs on about the nanny state and admires Trump? Can definitely fuck off.

PenelopeFeatherington · 23/05/2024 06:39

I think it need to tactically vote Lib Dem as we have a long standing conservative MP ( actually one of the better ones to be fair, but still.) Labour were a distant third last election. But will see how the land lies over the next few weeks.

This ^

There's absolutely zero point me voting Labour where I live as they never win, or even get close.... but I passionately despise the Tories so I vote tactically to get the Tories out

MySocksAreDotty · 23/05/2024 06:41

If you want the Tories out, and you’re in a Tory area, then tactically vote for the second biggest party.

RosaRoja · 23/05/2024 06:42

The leaflets can promise anything. Look at social media as well. That can tell you about the ghastliness of the person who’s promising to work for you.

Sirzy · 23/05/2024 06:44

As others have said it depends where you live really, there used to be website which helped device the best way to vote tactically.

I live in a safe Labour seat and will be voting Labour but more as a case of them being the least bad option really!

Aposterhasnoname · 23/05/2024 06:45

You really shouldn’t be asking people to tell you who to vote for. Apart from anything else no one knows who’s standing in your area.

Watch for each party’s manifestos and read them, then wait for the candidates in your area to put leaflets through your door and read them. Then decide which one aligns the most with your views and vote for them.

DustyLee123 · 23/05/2024 06:45

If you’re a woman, perhaps look at how the parties see/treat women.

Bjorkdidit · 23/05/2024 07:53

Definitely look at tactical voting if you don't want a Conservative government to continue any longer, which you probably shouldn't as it's unlikely they have your best interests at heart.

This quiz just told me I 90% agree with count binface

GentlemanJohnny · 23/05/2024 08:21

What party holds your seat at the moment?

If it's theTories, vote for whatever party came second last time.

If it's not the Tories, vote for that party.

The country NEEDS these total timewasters out. So long as they go who cares who replaces them.

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 23/05/2024 08:36

Labour believe in the government making sure everyone in society is supported to be able to prosper. They are more liberal on human rights and open minded about change. Support state schools, NHS, welfare state. Doing things for the common good. Believe that we are not all born in the same situation and some need more support than others.

The conservatives believe that the economy will be the main driving force for good. Everyone then has the opportunity to make money and send their kids to private school, get private health etc. They believe in a small state and let the economy sort out societal problems. They say they are good with the economy but this hasn't happened this time. They are traditionally more anti-immigration, probably traditional 2.4 families, used to believe women should stay at home etc but this has moved on.
They believe in privatising things (rather than the government running them) because they said companies would compete with each other to run them the best. Margaret Thatcher privatised water, rails, utilities. This is why we are in around the terrible state of trains, having sewage in our rivers and electricity gas being so high. because the companies that run themselves want to make a money so don't invest in improving the pipes and tracks and infrastructure but give it to their shareholders and bosses.

Last time Labour came in the benefits were:
Minimum wage
NHS waiting lists went down to lowest ever
Child poverty went down by half a million
Surestart centres introduced
Crime down by a third
Disability discrimination act
Best school results ever
Countries debt went down

they weren't perfect things they fucked up on:
Iraq war
PFIs
Sold off gold

Conservatives good things:
Legalised gay marriage
Furlough (though every country has this)
Vaccine roll.out (mainly down to and the NHS)

Bad things:
Increased NHS waiting lists to the longest time since after the war.
Reduced number if police, nurses,
Allowed Brexit to happen
Increased child poverty
Cost of living crisis
Use division politics (immigration, benefit bashing) which creates a more divided country.
Reduced Library numbers
Very corrupt especially since Johnson (literally billions of money given to their friends for dodgy contracts, lied about having parties during lockdown, )
Ruined the economy to make us downgraded as a country by the IMF.
Increased distrust in politicians to the worst levels ever
Set up the Rwanda scheme which was doomed to fail and very expensive.
Fail to do anything about self-id / womens rights
The court systems are the worst state they have been in since the war.
Prisons are massively overcrowded.
Increased university fees and made grants cost more.

This quiz just told me I 90% agree with count binface

😅

I got the Greens, Captain Binface, Women's Equality Party and Labour as my top four (all very close in the mid to high 80% range).

Tories on 15% 🤣 I'm now wondering where that 15% came from!

Please don't.

TeenDivided · 23/05/2024 08:48

As well as looking at policies, you need to consider whether you trust them to deliver.
No point having a policy that says 'free chocolate for all' if you don't think they will be able to source the chocolate.

So: look at policies, which do you agree with, which are important to you, who do you trust, who has a hope in your constituency. And go from there. Make up your own mind based on these.

Riverlee · 23/05/2024 08:50

It’s difficult, because you can have an mp which is really good for the local area, and supports and fights local issues, but you may not agree with their national policies.

Princessfluffy · 23/05/2024 08:50

Take your finger out of your nose and vote Labour.
