General election 2024

Voting Conservative or Labour?

StrawPollTime · 22/05/2024 21:16

So we actually have a date for the General Election!

If you're planning to vote Conservative or planning to vote Labour... then which? Please click to indicate:

YABU = I'm planning to vote Conservative

YANBU = I'm planning to vote Labour

(Sorry, I do know that other parties are available and other voting choices are possible. Obviously lots of people won't be voting either Conservative or Labour. But AIBU only has a 2-way voting option, and I wanted to get a quick snapshot of support for the 2 biggest parties. So this is a poll for people who are planning to vote for one of those two.)

Tactical Lib Dem for me. Anything to get the Tories out.

decionsdecisions62 · 23/05/2024 06:23

Mind your own business pollster!

Wouldn't vote Tory in a million years. They've always been a bunch of self-serving arseholes who care for no one but their own bank balance but the current government are truly the lowest of the low and have done their best to wreck our country. I will be voting Labour.

I looked to see if we have a constituency Labour candidate for my area and there isn't one!

I wonder if they will hastily drag someone out of bed, dust them off and stick a red rosette on their lapel.

Ive never voted for Labour - the thought of voting Neil Kinnock or Jez Corbyn in made me feel sick. Blair, benefit of hindsight, was a one- off for Labour, he was the Messiah, don't think we'll ever see the likes of him again. I just don't have a lot of faith in Kier, but I think he does surround himself with credible people so I'd vote for Labour this time round, if only to get the Tories out.

never thought I'd say that!

Starmer said tonight he was only a politician because he wanted to serve working class people.

Yeah right. On both.

You’ve misquoted. He said working people, no mention of class.

Lottelenya · 23/05/2024 06:36

@AngelicInnocent so do I and he’s useless. Are you in the NE ? I believe they’ve had a lot of investment and I expect that will make choosing difficult.

YourNimblePeachTraybake · 23/05/2024 06:43

Neither ever gets in here. Otherwise I would vote Labour.

Sheknowsaboutme · 23/05/2024 06:46

Neither. Voting another party.

Wewelcomeyourfeedback · 23/05/2024 06:47

Why in gods name would ANYONE vote to keep the Tories? Other than private school parents of course…

DaffydownClock · 23/05/2024 06:50

Absolutely no idea. It’s a Tory stronghold here ( utterly useless).
certainly won’t vote Labour either.

Alwaysalwayscold · 23/05/2024 07:14

I'm voting Reform UK.

rwalker · 23/05/2024 07:56

Wherly · 23/05/2024 06:06

Spoiling my ballot but it's a chicken shit move really as I am only doing it because I live in a very safe Labour seat.

i do the election count and we get a few of these always wondered what the point of doing it
what is it?

ArchaeoSpy · 23/05/2024 08:05

For our current prime minister and long may he reign.

worrieddaughter97 · 23/05/2024 08:07

If you're voting anyone other than Labour, or some other tactical vote, you're essentially saying you're happy with the state of the country today

Salmonyumyum · 23/05/2024 08:09

I'm basing it on policy alone. Sadly my area is an extremely safe Conservative seat but regardless of what little difference it makes I'll be voting Labour.

Hoping people encourage their kids to vote if they're of age; could make all the difference and it's their future ultimately!

changeison · 23/05/2024 08:12

you can't trust what you read on here. When Boris got his landslide victory, mumsnetters were predominantly posting pro labour things

Ringpeace · 23/05/2024 08:14

Jonismorf · 22/05/2024 23:29

I won't bother voting. It won't matter who wins, nothing will change for the little people. Something will go up a few quid, something else will come down a few pence. Either way, it'll cost us.

That's .... Interesting logic.

Agree, I was a lurker, and every poll someone did said it was going to be a labour landslide. Then when Boris got in, a couple of poster went absolutely nuts, one even started a thread spewing vitriol on here. Saying everyone was liars etc. it’s very left wing, or the Tory voters are just very quiet.

user411966691966 · 23/05/2024 08:15

You will get most people saying Labour, get rid of Tory scum, NEVER TORY etc etc

But people speak with forked tongue. The older you get, the more you learn that.

Delawear · 23/05/2024 08:15

A tactical Lib Dem vote to unseat the tories. Previous vote counts show that Labour would never win in my area.

It’s madness to think that more of the same will show improvements - let’s give someone else a chance.

Underparmummy · 23/05/2024 08:25

I normally vote Lid Dem, will probably repeat, Brexit for me is a big issue still. Cannot say any of the parties really feel aligned to me.

I am trying not to make it the centre of my thinking but I have kids at private schools (not really posh/wealthy ones) who are very happy and settled and the fee increase would be really hard for us. So the GE is tinged with some personal (I recognise super privileged position) regret.

Dollenganger333 · 23/05/2024 08:27

I will vote for whoever is most likely to unseat our Tory MP. I live in a swing seat. Not some other fascist by another name though.

Sunnyandsilly · 23/05/2024 08:29

A lot of people don’t like either major party, I’ve some workmen here, and one of them just said fucking starmer and raynor, that shower running the country, I’m voting reform, another said, no point in labour, they’d take starmer out a month later anyway, and all they will do is keep saying it’s all the tories fault that’s why they aren’t doing anything, it’s always the same mate.

it will be interesting to see how it eventually works out, but I personally don’t think anything is a given as the left wing supporters are hoping.

Tukmgru · 23/05/2024 08:30

Would vote LD if I could but the necessity of tactical voting means Labour in my constituency and that’s absolutely fine by me.

Dollenganger333 · 23/05/2024 08:35

changeison · 23/05/2024 08:12

Mumsnet isn’t representative of the UK as a whole and never has been.

The last GE was won by Boris Johnson because a lot of people (stupidly) voted to leave the EU and they wanted to see Brexit come to fruition. Even though most of them are likely worse off now as a result.

Dollenganger333 · 23/05/2024 08:38

I also think that people tend to vote for a PM overall. I am not sure how popular Rishi Sunak is with the racists up north who helped the last landslide.
