Ive spent hours researching and still none the wiser - can you wise people please help me.
I am on the road a lot, so need to be able to access email, respond and generally use it as my portable office.
Which would you choose?

networkguy - this is true, but i dont work in an office and have to charge up either in the car or house/gym etc depending where i am

It was in part a query / suggestion for others, who might not want to lug a mains adaptor (if they do spend time at an office, and perhaps take the bus or walk to work).

I use a USB cable to charge my iPhone at work on my PC. It is very compact and doesn't need to be PAT tested

I have both and end up having to forward emails from my BB to my Iphone to be able to read attachments. The BB zoom facility is truly rubbish.

iphones are fab for streeching the screen

Why does it have to be one or the other?

Have a look at Android phones - they're the best of both worlds.
Seriously good browser, LOADS of apps (more free ones than iPhone), push email, and you can get them in many different guises - HTC, Motorola, Sony, LG, Samsung - and not have to be stuck with what Research in Motion or Apple give you.

Seriously.
Have a look at the very popular HTC Desire. Or if you want one with a hardware keyboard, Motorola Milestone or DEXT.

The only reason Android is not as popular as either BB or iPhone is that it doesn't have RIM/Apple behind it to market it - that's left to the individual phone manufacturers that use it, and they just don't have the same kind of budget (or caché in the case of Apple).

It's like the old Betamax vs VHS battle. The lesser-known one is far superior.

RH - it may depend on which network the OP is using. Perhaps the marketing people have been pushing RIM and Apple phones, and have not done very much concerning Android support (or suitable data allowances to go with Android based phones).

Certainly there have been (in the past) bolt-ons specifically for Blackberry devices, and of late, tariffs only for Apple iPhones, which have had (until latest phone) fairly generous allowances.

Now that some networks seem to want to limit the iPhone users to around 1 GB a month, the attraction for some will be reduced a tad.

I took a quick look and it seems Vodafone and Virgin Media are now setting aside parts of their websites to allow people to see Android phones more easily. Don't know if they will do some online/media campaigning to highlight Android support, however. I think T-Mobile or Three are doing some phone at 13/month now.

Have had both in last year, and while the iPhone was fun, I definitely prefer my BlackBerry for business.

Pros of BlackBerry: far quicker to type out emails/texts, more secure emails, option of having different emails together or separate, better antenna/reception, better earpiece/sound, ability to edit/read Word/Excel/pdf/etc, photos/video surprisingly good quality, camera has flash, more robust, much longer battery life, looks more professional/less show-offy, etc.

Would strongly recommend BlackBerry for business.

I think the QWERTY keyboard would win it for me. Have seen a few people on MN excuse themselves for 'poor typing down to iPhone'.

In a business capacity, typos need avoiding, or slow you down to correct them. Also, touch-screens are certainly not everyones' cup of tea.
