I have some issues

1)If the song names for this CD cannot be found, how do I label them?

2)Is there anyway to make the menu options verbal/audible?

  1. I'm sure theres a feature where you can make it go online and 'find' the CD and then it will name the songs automatically

  2. yes probably (but I don't know how!)

Katymac · 16/03/2010 19:23

Aw thanks for trying......

Can anyone else help?

OP posts:
CrystalQueen · 16/03/2010 19:26
  1. you can just type them in iTunes. Just double click in the playlist (carefully or you will just end up playing the track).

  2. probably? As much use as fruitshoots there

Katymac · 16/03/2010 19:29

Do I have to do each track (on an audio book) or can I name them all?

OP posts:
PersonalClown · 16/03/2010 19:34

If the CD does not come up with any names then you need to go into the advanced menu and click on Get CD names.

If that doesn't work then you can type them in manually by right clicking on the track and going to the Get Info tab.

Audible menus I haven't a clue I'm afraid.

CrystalQueen · 16/03/2010 19:37

The names don't really matter - if it's an audio book then do you need them?

Katymac · 16/03/2010 19:38

I have 5 books each with 8 or 9 discs without names and each disc has 6-29 segments

OP posts:
Katymac · 16/03/2010 19:39

So I want to sort them into books somehow so DD can listen to them in order

It is driving her/me wild as she can't see the menu & is doing it by trial & error

Any help from anyone?

  1. As someone else has said the way to do it is to right click on a track and select "Get Info", you can then enter any information that you want.

  2. That will be a function of the Operating System you're using, for example I'm pretty sure that Mac OS X does it, so what are you on?

Katymac · 17/03/2010 09:58

XP - is my OS (I think but wouldn't it be whether the ipod had voice options?

I can name each track but I can't see how to name the whole CD - only each track changes (well the way I did it)

OP posts:
BadgersPaws · 17/03/2010 10:21

On the Get Info screen as well as there being a track name there should be an album name field. Set that as well.

If I have a CD that fails to have it's track names loaded I'll use Get Info to set the Track Name, Album Name, Artist and Genre. All of that helps iTunes group the things together in the right way.

When you say you want the menu options to be audible do you mean the iPod menu options or the iTunes menu options.

I thought you meant iTunes but I think I grabbed the wrong end of the stick.

I "think" only the new iPod Shuffles offer audible menus.

Katymac · 17/03/2010 11:12

Thanks for that - I will try (when I am 'home' from work)

That is the iPod I will have to buy for DD if she continues to have trouble seeing - I am reluctant to spend too much money (yet) as it might come back at any time

OP posts:
Katymac · 17/03/2010 19:28

If you highlight the whole album (all tracks) & do Get info it works

Thanks

SO a track is in the wrong place on the playlist.......how do I move it?

OP posts:
TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 17/03/2010 21:19

This is for iTunes, not on your iPod itself...

If you go to View => View Options => then you can tick the 'track number' box to get that column appearing in your album view thing. Then you'll be able to click on the top of the column and sort by track no.

If that's not what you were after, I had a look in the iTunes help and found this too:

'To change the order of songs in a playlist, drag the songs into the order you want. If you can't drag a song, click the column heading above the numbers. You can't reorder songs if they're sorted by one of the other headings or if shuffle is on. To turn off shuffle, click the Shuffle button' (bottom left-hand corner of iTunes window)

HTH? Will go and poke my iPod (nano) and see if there is an audio menu option, but I doubt it...

Katymac · 17/03/2010 21:25

Thanks

it won't drag & if I sort on track number I get all the track 1's then track 2's

I think I must be being dim

OP posts:
TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 17/03/2010 21:43

Must admit, that's what i thought it would do when I read the help file. i have been playing with this and i think you can do it like this:

First select your playlist.
Next, go to the 'list' view.
Then click in the little box above the left-hand column (not on the arrow, oh no, that doesn't work )
Now you should be able to drag and drop. Maybe.

Here's a screenshot with the buttons circled, as my powers of description are rubbish..

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 17/03/2010 21:46

Apparently I can also do audio menus on mine! Don't know what iPod you've got though? again C&P from the help file...

"To turn on spoken menus:
Connect your iPod nano to your computer.

In iTunes, select iPod nano (below Devices) and click the Summary tab.

Select ?Enable spoken menus for accessibility.?

If you have Microsoft Narrator turned on, this option is selected by default.

Click Apply."

I started to do it on mine, but cancelled as it was taking forever (but it's nearly full and a bit creaky at the best of times)

Katymac · 17/03/2010 21:48

Goodness me - that was amazing; it worked first time

Sorry if I was being dim - there is a lot on my mind atm

Now if I can only get the thing talking, we would be away

But I think I will have to buy a bit of new kit (this one is borrowed)

OP posts:
Katymac · 17/03/2010 21:54

I don't think that I have a Devises bit.....at least I don't think so

OP posts:
BadgersPaws · 18/03/2010 09:27

You shouldn't need to make a playlist to have the tracks sorted by track number within an album.

Make sure that you set the album and artist name correctly and when viewing an album it should automatically sort by track number within it.

I think that the devices option will only appear when an iPod is connected.

Finally I think it's only the iPod Nano that will do audible menus.

prism · 18/03/2010 15:49

What might help is the fact that you can select the whole CD in iTunes once you've imported it by holding down the shift key- select the first track, hold down the shift key and click on the last one- then you can apply the same information to them all, by right clicking or control clicking (if you're on a Mac). That will save you a lot of hassle.

Katymac · 19/03/2010 09:40

That's working - unfortunately tracks on some books aren't labelled very well
