No but watching for any news. Nothing on apple website this morning.

Not that I have my iPhone available to download it onto yet, so hoping to download it into my mac and then transfer it across.

Killed iPhone 2 weeks ago when it got wet whilst I was at work, insurance company confirmed yesterday that it can't be repaired and they don't hold them in stock. So looks like I will have to wait up to 10 days to get a replacement.
Wonder if I'll get a new new one???

suwoo · 17/06/2009 11:03

Is this for those with an older style iphone? I got mine a couple of monhs ago, can I upgrade to the new stuff?

bramblebooks · 17/06/2009 11:05

hope you will flappy - not upgrading to a new new until my contract's up in Feb, o2 want those wishing to upgrade early to pay the remaining months as well as the cost of a 3gs - not worth it! As and when I do upgrade I'll sell the old one on ebay to recoup some of the cost (if ds1 doesn't nick it first!)

Lots of tweets on twitter about the update not going live in uk until this evening.
Can you download it to mac without having the phone plugged in?

yes suwoo you can. I have iphone 3g and it will get lots of new features with the update. I would need 3gs for video, but there's loads to get on 3g - like mms and forwarding texts which we should have had from the very beginning really!

FlappyTheBat · 17/06/2009 11:06

Think it is for all iPhones as it is an upgrade to the operating system.

Your IPhone should be a 3g, like my poor iPhone was too, as I only got mine in March.

EyeballsandherSunburntNorks · 17/06/2009 11:07

I've had 3.0 for about a week now and I love the landscape texting and email, so much better. Have also sent a few MMS as well. I'm so happy to have that at last!

But, being a total Mac geek, am probably going to get the new phone on Friday. Have worked out that if I sell my original iPhone and my current one I should be able to cover most of the cost. I'm such a sucker for all this

FlappyTheBat · 17/06/2009 11:09

Have heard that apple are bringing out iPhone4 possibly next year, so going to wait and see before I upgrade phone.

Know I'll probably just get same version back when my phone is replaced.

MerlinsBeard · 17/06/2009 11:10

it's on teh apple site already you know

MerlinsBeard · 17/06/2009 11:11

and do you know that they are reducing the price of the 3G one to £99?

EyeballsandherSunburntNorks · 17/06/2009 11:11

So am I . I'm getting this on PAYG and swapping the sim. Oh God, DH would go mad if he knew. but he won't spot the difference

FlappyTheBat · 17/06/2009 11:12

EyeBalls, how much do you have to pay to test the beta version for Apple?

Looked into to downloading it but didn't when I realised I would have to pay for the privilege for something that I would be getting free [mean scot emoticon]

EyeballsandherSunburntNorks · 17/06/2009 11:14

I didn't. The one I have is the Gold Master beta copy, so it's the final version that will be released. You just have to know where to look for it. I find google helps greatly at a time like this as no one is allowed to post links to these things

FlappyTheBat · 17/06/2009 11:20

Thank you, must remember Gold Master!!!

suwoo · 17/06/2009 11:24

Can someone explain to me in very basic terms, what I need to do to upgrade my phone. Do I have to pay?

I have an iphone geek friend who normally enlightens me about these things, but unfortunately his dad died yesterday, so I won't be bothering him today

EyeballsandherSunburntNorks · 17/06/2009 11:28

No payment, it should be very simple if the official version has been released.

  • Plug iPhone into computer and open iTunes
  • Select your phone and press synch to back up your phone.
  • It should automatically tell you that there is an upgrade available and ask if you want to install it.
  • Then just follow the instructions as they pop up on the screen.

Sorry about your friend's dad

suwoo · 17/06/2009 11:41

Thanks eyeballs. Have just gone to itunes and it says the software is the current one (or something like that). Presume its not gone live yet then?

bramblebooks · 17/06/2009 11:44

seen 6pm and 9pm mentioned on twitter. grrrr.

bramblebooks · 17/06/2009 18:41

Yay! it's live now and doing its stuff.

OP posts:
RustyBear · 17/06/2009 18:45

You will apparently have to pay for a £10 top up if you're on Pay and Go.

bramblebooks · 17/06/2009 18:49

Lordy rusty, greedy so and sos! As if p &g wasn't expensive enough with set up costs already!

OP posts:
RustyBear · 17/06/2009 18:55

I just tried to get on the page where it says about the top up to put a link on here - I've got a message saying that www.one-moment-please.com/o2.htm is timing out. "Could the server be experiencing high demand?" asks Firefox innocently.

Presumably that's the page they are putting up for people who can't get to the actual site - and they can't get to the apology page either!

Think I'll wait till later....

I have- can't notice much difference...

I mean, there's photo messaging, a voice recorder, the option to search the content of phone alphabetically. Nothing else has jumped out at me yet!
