Well the Xmas rush must have died down by now & people have got used to their Wiis - SO what are the pros & cons ? Is it best to buy a package, what 'extras' do you need, what games are good & what games could be better ? Any good deals around ?
DS is 7 & there is me & DH who will be playing with it!

Great computer, good fun for all the family. I agree with LL you need a second contoller....and I also got a recharging pack for them both, as the batteries don't last very long.
I'm going to get the Wii fitness too!

We bought the basic package, which included the console, a nunchuck and controller, and Wii sports disc, for about £179
Then we bought an extra controller, the rechargable batteries and base, and got another free games disc (Wii Play)

Excellent value for money, it really is very good fun!

Furball · 16/02/2008 10:23

if you buy wii play - it comes with a free controller

Whizzz · 16/02/2008 10:39

cheers, keep them coming !!
Best place to buy ?? (online or shop?)

Our House Rule - nobody plays unless they have the wrist strap on properly.
Agree, get the recharging base - ours was included in an argos package.
I have been saving Lego Star Wars for half-term, so hoping it is good.

Whizzz · 16/02/2008 10:58

Thanks - some good tips - was hoping to be able to go out & get one - but it still seems unlikely to be able to walk into a shop & get one!

Lego Star Wars is AWESOME.

Mario Party 8 is great especially for littler members of the family who find the wii mote a struggle in other games.

I really wanted Wii Fit, but then apparently the designer has come out and said it's not actually meant to help people get fit (i.e. it's a complete gimmic, and is just a pair of scales glued together that you can balance) so I've gone off the idea a bit...

RubberDuck · 16/02/2008 11:08

For the adults (well ... 12+) : Legend of Zelda is really good fun and uses the wiimotes well.

DO NOT BOTHER with Mini Desktop Racing - it's crap.

We are thinking of Console & Sports + buying Wii Play to get another remote. I've seen a couple of types op recharger / docking station thingies - any recomendations?
To be honest, not a fan of platform type games - so looking for anything more 'party' game type thigns

i have that docking station too, seems fine.

spudmasher · 17/02/2008 08:30

There was a big article in the body and mind section of yesterday's Times which rated the wii fit quite highly for fitness. I have signed up for the email alert for when it becomes available....

opinionateddad · 17/02/2008 15:00

Most of the good tips are above... have had my Wii for about 14 months and the most essetial items are

1 - RGB Scart cable to replace crappy composite cable for normal non HD TV (trust me this makes a huge different to the picture quality)

2 - Componant cable for anyone out there with a HD enabled TV (again see end of item 1)

3 - Wii Play with the extra controller (best way to get a second one) and the games are pretty good fun

4 - Extra nunchuck for extra controller

5 - I have this but there are many otherswww.amazon.co.uk/4gamers-Remote-Charging-Stand-Wii/dp/B000OKXCQU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=v ideogames&qid=1203259987&sr=1-4

6 - item 5 is great but does not come with batteries.. so these are essential
www.amazon.co.uk/Duracell-Supreme-AAA-Rechargeable-pack/dp/B00062IL76/ref=pd_bbs_sr_12?ie=U TF8&qid=1203260191&sr=8-12
Any brand will do but it is critial that they are 1000mAh

Happy gaming.. ours had had continuous use for the last year or so from pretty much everyone that has been to the house (4-70 years old)

opinionateddad · 17/02/2008 15:02

sorry.. screwed up the links

ideogames&qid=1203259987&sr=1-4 station
TF8&qid=1203260191&sr=8-12 batteries

playground game is good too, it can be played as a single player collecting things and storing them on your file just don't let your dchild go on said file and delete it when it was 88% complete me, bitter and twisted no but ds was worried what his daddy would say...bless him x

PurplePillow · 17/02/2008 20:15

Super paper mario is excelent too, trinityrhino and I have had soo much fun with it

Trinityrhino also strongly recommends super mario galaxy, its fab too

RubberDuck · 18/02/2008 09:42

Brain Training is okay, but to be honest I got bored of it pretty quickly.

chopster · 18/02/2008 09:44

Id recomend mario galaxy, zelda and tomb raider.

WOuld not recomend red steel, the controls are impossible.

wii play and sports are ace for the kids.
