Ds really wants one for Christmas but I can’t afford the likes of the drawing the has seen on the iPad. I don’t want to spend a lot of money in case it is just a fad. Can anyone recommend one please as I have no idea what makes a good one or what it needs to have please??

Tia

Ok thanks all, he knows he will have to look at the computer screen as apposed to the tablet. I will get a cheaper one for now, he has an expensive gaming laptop which it will be plugged into. I will see how he gets on and then maybe invest in a more expensive one next year.

That sounds good @Tryingtokeepsafe as the good laptop will really help to make the pictures good.. 😊

The two fingered glove is used on the drawing hand to reduce friction and make it glide more easily across the surface of the tablet when you're drawing.

It also stops the oils/sweat from your hand damaging the screen and, if it's a touch screen, reduces the risk of accidentally triggering the screen with the side of your hand.

Not essential, but nice to have and they're not very expensive. Just watch the sizing, as they're generally "One size fits all"... Otherwise known as XXL.

@mollscroll pen and paper? 😂 sorry couldn’t resist

Fair Grin She does love tinkering on her iPad with the various drawing functions - would be great to have an offline one.

Full photoshop is only £9.99 a on this and you can cancel any time. Artrage (super for oil painting] is £40. Rebelle 3 fab for water colours. Corel 2020 is very expensive, but their elements is pretty cheap. I have a gaming PC purely for photoshop.

Looking on the Adobe website, Photoshop is currently showing at £19.97 per month, so £239.64 per year! I expect there will be special offers available that bring it down to £9.99 per month, but that's still a rather meaty £119.88 each year.

I had a quick glance at the XP-PEN G640 Drawing Graphics Tablet and it seems like a good starting point. The price is low enough to not be a massive investment if it doesn't get used that much, but at the same time it's got the pressure sensitivity, etc, to be genuinely useful tool for an introduction to digital art.

I've not had any experience with XP-PEN, but I recognise them as a brand that's been around for a few years. So hopefully spares won't be a major issue, if needed!
