Does anyone know any good ones? DH and I live an exciting life Wink and have been trying some brainteasers out on each other. I appear to have run out now but I want some really tricky ones to get him with tomorrow if anyone can help!

OP posts:

No

DadDadDad · 29/03/2018 16:24

Was Hans at an age where he would have been conscripted, so arrested for draft-dodging?

MongerTruffle · 29/03/2018 16:26

Nope

DadDadDad · 29/03/2018 16:27

Or was his date of birth showing as say 17/01/1920 rather than the US format of 01/17/1920 revealing that his passport was fake?

MongerTruffle · 29/03/2018 16:29

Very close

They had been asked to fill in personal information forms that asked for their dates of birth. Fritz's date of birth was, for instance, 7 July 1915, so he wrote down 07/07/1915. Hans's date of birth was, for example, 20 May 1915, so he wrote down 20/05/1915 (in the European format), instead of 05/20/1915 (in the American format).

I went into the woods and got it; I sat down to try to find it; when I left I couldn't help taking it with me.

What is it?

PedantHere · 29/03/2018 16:32

A splinter?

ScreamingValenta · 29/03/2018 16:36

That's right, PedantHere.

A man was travelling by train, returning from hospital. If he had been in a non-smoking car he would have died. Why?

QueenOfAccidentalDeathStares · 29/03/2018 16:46

something to do with needing the window open?
train crashed in a river and he could escape?

MongerTruffle · 29/03/2018 16:56

Nope

ScreamingValenta · 29/03/2018 16:56

Was he wearing a plastic cast which was too tight, causing a blood clot, and a cigarette lighter was needed to melt the straps so it could be removed?

MongerTruffle · 29/03/2018 17:00

Shock NC fail

I keep forgetting to change my username.

No, Screaming, he wasn't.

ScreamingValenta · 29/03/2018 17:04

The lights failed in the train while it was going through a tunnel; he was walking down the aisle and would have tripped and fatally injured himself had people not lit their lighters to illuminate his path.

(Assuming pre-mobile phone days so no other light sources as it's the bygone era of the smoking carriage)

MongerTruffle · 29/03/2018 17:06

No, but quite close.

yawning801 · 29/03/2018 17:07

This one has probably already been done, but can't be arsed to RTFT.

One night, a butcher, a baker and a candlestick maker walk into a room. They stay overnight, and nobody enters or leaves. In the morning, four people leave the room. How?

ScreamingValenta · 29/03/2018 17:07

Oooh. Quite close ...

ScreamingValenta · 29/03/2018 17:08

Yawning was someone already in the room when the three of them went in?

AngeloMysterioso · 29/03/2018 17:12

Yawning- the other person was already in the room?

DadDadDad · 29/03/2018 17:14

yawning - I'm wondering if one of the three was pregnant and gave birth during the night?

MongerTruffle · 29/03/2018 17:29

If it's said out loud, could it be that a knight walked into the room?

yawning801 · 29/03/2018 17:34

Yes Monger! A+!

What eight-letter word has "kst" in the middle, in the beginning, and at the end?

clumsyduck · 29/03/2018 17:36

Loving this , sorry none to add that haven't already been done . Funnily enough we were doing brainteasers with dc on the drive home from a day out earlier . ( stops them killing each other ) Done some of these with them to and have googled loads more . It's even distracted them from the PlayStation !!!! Grin thanks op ! Smile

DadDadDad · 29/03/2018 17:37

The train one: did the train enter a tunnel just as the man was removing bandages from his eyes? If he hadn't seen the glow of cigarettes he would have assumed he had gone blind and thrown himself from the train in despair. Bit of a stretch but it's the kind of answer these questions seem to like... Grin
