Evening all,
I had a search earlier but couldn't find any threads like this, hoping I've put this in the right place...

I've heard of ted talks and had a look at the site, but it seemed quite hard to navigate from my phone, I'd really like to do something with my evenings in 2017 that doesn't revolve around Netflix box sets and was wondering if anyone can recommend some ted talks to watch instead?

Funny that this thread has been started. I was just talking about watching TED talks.
Think I might join you in making this an aim for 2017. I waste so much time watching pointless programmes, just for something to do.
This is a much better idea, thanks!

Crochetnanigans · 30/12/2016 21:48

afraid i cant remember what it was called. but it was a lady talking about how to have better conversations.

she said people should listen to understand. not listen to reply. it struck a chord :)

CauliflowerSqueeze · 30/12/2016 21:50

Yes my fave is Amy Cuddy too

RubyWinterstorm · 30/12/2016 21:54

The ken Robinson one about changing educational paradigms (sorry if that dies not sound exciting, it is!) was amazing imo, it helped me understand my reservations about the current education system

(Esp as I have one DC struggle at school)

SantaIsABastard · 30/12/2016 22:10

Marking place to cue these on a playlist later. Thanks for the suggestions.

parklives · 30/12/2016 22:16

Great thread!

Oh bloody hell, just watched the Monica Lewinsky video. I'm in tears here people Blush !

What an amazing speech.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 30/12/2016 22:40

OMG swhats ted talks

MountainPeaks · 30/12/2016 22:41

Beyond Giving - a must watch for anyone interested in charities.

OohhThatsMe · 30/12/2016 22:44

I was in tears at Monica Lewinsky, too. I just hadn't thought of her age and his age, his job/her job, and the way she was publicly shamed afterwards. Appalling.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/12/2016 22:47

I love these for washing up or ironing. Makes boring stuff much less so.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 30/12/2016 22:49

DH irons to Ted talk playlists.

Cindbelly · 30/12/2016 22:54

Agreed less I'm not sure what I was expecting but that was quite powerful

Yes ooh I was thinking the same thing, I can't remember if he got the same backlash as she did? we didn't have the internet in 98

OP posts:
Cindbelly · 30/12/2016 23:00

zevite I was only vaguely aware of them before today, I think they're a collection of speeches and sound bites from specialists or people with experiences covering a broad range of topics.
Hopefully someone here who actually knows will be able to explain it better as I'm not 100% sure either Blush

They are usually organised as events sometimes covering a theme, with a series of max 20 min talks delivered without notes to a venue of 'delegates'. TedX are affiliated events. If I recall, the TED stands for technology, education & design. The topics are wildly diverse.

Nineloves1 · 30/12/2016 23:27

Agree re introverts, body language, also want in by Sheryl Sandberg.

Randy Pausch's book was amazing and I have heard good things about the talk.

Martin Bromiley also gives an excellent talk on The Human Factors, not on Ted Talk though, try you tube.

IHeartKingThistle · 30/12/2016 23:27

I use Megan Washington's Ted talk on living with a stutter with my adult learners. It's really good.

TigerBreadAddict · 30/12/2016 23:31

Anyone use tedtalk podcasts? Have just subscribed but not got around to listening to any yet. Are they as good?

justicewomen · 30/12/2016 23:40

My recommendation is for Pragna Patel of Southall Black Sisters entitled "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere".

It is about the diminution of access to justice in this country and the consequences when access to justice is threatened.

TyneTeas · 31/12/2016 12:32

Bumping in the hope of more suggestions Smile

teaandakitkat · 31/12/2016 12:37

Great thread, will be stealing some recommendations

justicewomen · 31/12/2016 15:14

It would have helped to put a link to the Pragna Patel of Southall Black Sisters talk mentioned above. Its at
