I don't use Google so Chrome is out.

Internet Explorer - isn't that meant to be bad for viruses?

Firefox.

Are there any others??

Chrome here on a chrome book. Dwerf how do you get american Netflix? Is it better than the UK one?

Dwerf · 24/12/2013 17:46

lumpy apparently you add something called Hola unblocker, I haven't tried it yet so ca't say if it works.

If american netflix has the walking dead on it, then it's better than the uk one Grin

Sorry, what's all this 'have to use Google' (seen in relation to Chrome and Opera)... ? No, Ferguson, AFAIK there's no reason to use Google for things if one is using Chrome, though if you do login, it permits sharing of bookmarks, etc, from device to device...

Just use www.metacrawler.com as your search engine, or www.bing.co.uk or some other that you prefer...

I think the problem may be just typing some search phrase and letting the browser do a search with it (in which case, it may be that it defaults to Google if you do that on Chrome).

Dwerf - there are ad-blockers for Chrome and Firefox so I am sometimes shocked when using LogMeIn on someone else's system and see all the trash that's not being shown on my browsers...

PedroYoniLikesCrisps - "No stupid toolbars popping up every time you download something. Before Chrome existed I used Firefox and I could barely see the Internet through all the add ons."

What stupid toolbars popping up ? Just puzzled... Sure you haven't added on someting that does this?

What's better then - Firefox, Safari or Explorer? Or Opera?

I use Windows XP, Win 7, Android on phones and tablet, and OSX 10.6 on an iMac. Browser-wise I use whatever is available - Chrome and Opera won't work on all versions of OSX (need an Intel CPU), Safari and Firefox are on all my iMacs. On Windows I use everything but Safari and rarely use IE (as it is most likely to have BHOs that are unwelcome, and once loaded may be awkward to remove).

Nearly all of them have pros and cons, in how they handle bookmarks, tabs, "private browsing" and so on. I like the fact Firefox and Chrome can show saved passwords. I like that Safari can merge all open tabs from all windows...

I like that Safari can merge all open tabs from all windows...

Is that different to what Chrome does?

NetworkGuy · 25/12/2013 13:05

Had never seen that facility. I often run browsers with 10-15 windows and up to 10 tabs on each window. With Safari it's possible to merge them all (so I can bookmark the lot, then go through them zapping things which I no longer need... and yes, I go off at tangents a lot of the time, which is how I end up with 100-150 tabs by the end of most days).

Of course, it may be an option implemented on the Windows version of Chrome, or a particular version, and not on the version I'm using on OSX (v31.0.1650.63) or Win 7 (v31.0.1650.63m hmmm, amazing, same version!)

OK, on basis they say they are 'up to date', I'm guessing you might have some extension to Chrome which offers you that facility.
