How is everyone's pot lasagnes coming along?

For the first time I attempted a pot lasagne a couple of months ago. Perhaps it was too ambitious for a newbie gardener like myself. I can't even remember what I planted with my tulips but I do know each pot has three different flower bulbs. So far I have seen some green and some greenish brown shoots emerge but nothing else.

Anyone else had more progress? Or is this what I should expect?

They look lovely!

I really like the iris reticulata, I've got a patch in the front garden by the front door that I planted a few years ago and they seem to have really multiplied this year.
Snowdrops were first, then the iris, and also hellebores flowering well. There are some primulas under the stuff that needs clearing as well - I was ill the last 2 weeks of January and recovering most of February, so haven't managed to do much. Had a few hours yesterday afternoon cutting back and clearing and filled the green bin, looks much better but needs hours more 😊.

My pots from previous years usually end up with some forgetmenots in them.

I think mine has tulips, hyacinths, muscari, crocuses and irises. The hyacinth are really going for it but the crocus has only just started to poke out of the soil. It's my first attempt and all planted in a rush on a very windy November day! (Also suspect i may have planted the tulips too deep and we've had a lot of rain so not too hopeful about those)

We haven't had rain at my neck of the woods for a few days, should I water my pots? Or leave then alone.

See how heavy they feel - while it's cool I'd have thought they'd be fine for a few days but if there's a prolonged dry spell they'd need some water.

I watered mine a couple of days ago as we hadn't had rain all week and they were feeling a bit light. I put a little feed in the water too.

Typically it's now raining Grin

After my cat was put to sleep two years ago, the vets sent me a pack of forget me not seeds in a card so I planted them in a large terracotta bowl with tete a tete daffodils that I bought. I put a label in it with his name and I will keep that going each year as his little memorial garden. 😺

That's so lovely Flowers

The bulb pots are really delivering - I’ve got a riot of tulips, daffs, frittilarias. The first parrot tulips just got started today, so the show will continue a few more weeks…

Quitelikeit · 27/03/2025 21:15

Oops I thought I was coming on to see tips and pictures of slow cooker lasagna 🙈😂

Patterncarmen · 27/03/2025 21:30

Very well. Ten pots on the pergola with a lower layer of Muscari, with Tulips just starting to bud above them…almost looks like the tulips will be floating on a carpet of blue flowers.

it is fun to hear about everyone’s results.

The hyacinths have been gorgeous this year but I planted loads of iris reticula in pots and direct into the soil and have seen nothing but long leaves (example in photo).

My iris reticulata have been and gone, with the long leaves left. But I have got a similar pot from a couple of years ago and the iris didn't flower this year.

Doh! I’ve just looked back at my bulb order and they are Iris Hollandica not reticula. Not due to flower until late April May! I must have got confused as they are much bigger I think.

BestIsWest · 28/03/2025 17:19

Reticulata I can’t spell either!

Serriadh · 28/03/2025 18:30

What should I be feeding mine if I want them to come back next year? I have daffodils, tulips and crocus in pots, and anemones in the soil which have been amazing this year.

BunnyRuddington · 12/05/2025 08:39

Well it was spectacular in the end, which is surprising given that I only planted it up in December. Just wondering how to care for it now that the flowers have gone?

mummymummymummummum · 12/05/2025 16:05

I didn’t like mine in the end. They were two busy and some things just got hidden completely. I

’ve deadheaded and lifted them all out and separated things out . Tulips in one pot for the foliage to die back. I’m just going to put them in the ground to see if any come back next year. I’ve then got everything else planted in pots - all hyacinths in one pot, muscari in another etc.

Thats such a shame but hopefully things will grow better and be more enjoyable next year FlowersSmile
