Campanula, several roses, clematis, alliums, cosmos, poppies, cornflowers, forget-me-not, lilac & peonies.

WithASpider · 28/05/2024 11:27

I'm envious of all of your gardens, especially roses!

I seem to be in a bit of a flowering gap, got Aquilegia and something called Artist's paintbox currently but everything else is still in bud. Lots of pretty foliage though. This is the first year my peonies should flower so I have lots of hope, couple more weeks and it'll be glorious!

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 28/05/2024 11:31

A fuck ton of dandelions and weeds. I was very tempted to leave one big clump of weeds in cos they had lovely pink flowers on them. But they were in the way when I was painting my fence so out they came. No idea how they've grown cos a gentle tug lifted them out of the concrete they'd come through. I do however when I find the inspiration to finish de weeding the rest of the garden have a little wildflower card although it's probably too late to plant that this year.

Singleandproud · 28/05/2024 12:01

@IBegYourBiggestPardon wildflowers will still flower if planted now, pop it in the fridge until you are ready to use them as some need a cold blast to germinate.

Just a word of warning from someone who intentionally ended up with a meadow garden, even a fairly small wildflower patch spreads over the years so if you aren't ok with that, and/or very proud of a weed free lawn plant them elsewhere.

Roses nowhere near ready here, neither are the foxgloves or my potted geraniums. The rain and the slugs have put paid to most things.

Yes, I forgive have live purple clematis out at the moment over an arch.

I am most excited though about my hydrangeas which I’ve abused through ignorant pruning over the last 2 years, but now they are absolutely covered in buds (I have a whole deep bed devoted to them). I’m hoping for a blowsy show this year.

echt · 29/05/2024 00:20

It's the very end of autumn here in Melbourne:

Salvia "Anthony Parker"
Black-eyed Susan*
Crucifix orchids in orange, coral and magenta*
Bougainvillea in white, yellow and magenta

Grevillea of various kinds*
Banksia birthday candles
Coastal banksia
Silver banksia

Everything with a * flowers continually all year round.

CatherinedeBourgh · 29/05/2024 07:00

I've never seen a swiss cheese plant in flower, how big do they have to be before they flower?

ThreeDimensional · 29/05/2024 08:00

Meadowfinch · 29/05/2024 08:31

Early roses, alliums, foxgloves, salvias, philadelphus, geraniums, forsythia

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 29/05/2024 11:46

@Singleandproud thank you I'll do that. I was thinking of just buying a large planter at some point and sticking it in there. The size of the card is probably only around the size of a 50p piece. The only other option would be to fill the gap between where my garden ends and the fence of the garden opposite starts. Technically it's still my part of the garden. There is soil in there already cos that's where half of the weeds grow but it doesn't look like it's very deep. Part of me does wonder if I should just not bother with them. I seem to kill everything I try to grow
