I just love the blue of the sea holly daisychain

daisychain01 · 21/07/2024 21:25

Blue in the garden is so refreshing and cool isn't it @ILikeDungs

I never realised (because it's the first year I've grown sea holly from bare roots) that the 'flower is colourless and quite insipid when it first grows, after a while it turns the beautiful vibrant blue. It's a fascinating plant. The spines and leaves are a lot sharper that teasels.

What roses are they @daisychain01?

Here's my Black Knight buddleia; David Austen The Lady Gardener rose & pink Mallow with bumblebee 🐝

Very pleasing indeed @JeysusH a calming place to 'sit and be' 🤗

I proper lol'd at your crab spider @APurpleSquirrel 😂
I'll check the rose names as I always get them mixed up, and will report back....

Your clematis loves you @KingscoteStaff they take no prisoners, if they don't like someone's garden, they sit and sulk for months deliberately for effect. Your's on the other hand is a happy camper!

AnneKipankitoo · 26/07/2024 20:22

Oh that is gorgeous @JeysusH

That's beautiful @daisychain01, it's so chunky! Does it have scent?

JeysusH · 27/07/2024 09:17

Ah yes @daisychain01 clematis hate my garden. I've got a Montana that puts on a decent display every year but every other one I've planted either withers on the branch or grows a couple of inches and gives me one flower. I persist though! I've put one in a massive tub in a SW facing spot, I have hopes!

applecatchers36 · 27/07/2024 09:40

Lovely rose daisychain1

Your path and seating area looks like a proper green oasis JeysusH would love to sit down there with a book and a cuppa 😊

JeysusH · 27/07/2024 09:40

The bottom of the garden. I love it down there,

It's my morning coffee spot @applecatchers36.

It's a really calm spot to sit and contemplate with all the birds. Although the blackbirds were nesting in the ivy this year so I sat on the top terrace to leave them to it! (They usually go in the woodshed but made a beautiful nest at head-height in the ivy, I did sneak the odd peak at their 'pretending not to be there' chicks).

It's a great garden for birds, we had the blackbirds, song thrush, chaffinches, wren, hedge sparrows, house sparrows and house martins nesting this year, they tend to come back, it's a bit of a riot in spring! I think the poor weather was actually pretty good for the birds, they all fledged their first lot and had a second clutch. Birds love a gardener! I had a walled kitchen garden years ago and became very friendly with a male blackbird, every time I came out, he'd hop behind me and hoover up any worms I uncovered, he was bold!

AnneKipankitoo · 27/07/2024 13:32

That is such a beautiful spot @JeysusH

Oh that's lovely @daisychain01 - I've just acquired The Generous Gardener DA rose reduced from the garden centre - it's looking healthy & having repotted it I'm hoping it takes off along my fence. That flower is fabulous.
I also got a reduced DA Gertrude Jekyll but it's very small & may not survive (my Bathesheba died).

Yesterday, as well as repotting The Generous Gardener; also repotted two other rescues - a Syringa Charles Joly (lilac) & a climbing hydrangea (petiolaris) I'm hoping will grow up the back of the house which is north-west facing.

AnneKipankitoo · 28/07/2024 19:42

Our Gertrude was fabulous this year
