This is my first thread although I've been lurking in the Gardening threads for a while.

I'm hoping the plant ID experts are online this evening.
This grassy looking plant has appeared in the front garden over the last six weeks. I can't recall seeing it last year which was the end of a house renovation so admittedly I probably didn't notice it. I began to get to grips with the front garden around September last year at which point this wasn't showing.

A previous thread requesting a similar looking plant to be identified suggested Day Lily but I'm completely clueless. Any ideas?

I hope the pics are clear enough. TIA.

The leaves don't look broad enough for a daylily I don't think. I'll nip out and photograph mibe for comparison. Gimme a minute

Agitatethebumcrack · 13/04/2023 19:15

I was thinking it looks like the clumps of Spanish bluebells I’ve been digging up this weekend. I tried to zoom in but it just blurred, are these the start of flowers I’ve circled?

I don’t think it’s a day lily - the leaves on mine are paler, less glossy and more upright. At this time of year I’d suspect bluebells.

heldinadream · 13/04/2023 19:18

I was going to say bluebells. They will start to show flowers soon and then it'll be clear fairly quickly so leave them, best way to find out what a thing is is to let it flower.

NeonBoomerang · 13/04/2023 19:19

Here are my daylillies, with obligatory banana for scale.

I too was thinking Spanish Bluebells. I also have some of them to photograph of you like 😂

Yes, squinting in the red circle I think I can see a flower spike emerging.

Agitatethebumcrack · 13/04/2023 19:22

@NeonBoomerang I love that you carried a banana out with you for the photo shoot 😂

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 13/04/2023 19:23

bluebells, or possibly three-order-leeks. I find the best strategy with either of those is to decide you like them.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/04/2023 19:26

I’m all too familiar with three-cornered leek and don’t think it’s that, again because the foliage would be paler and more upright.

Bluebells almost definitely. They suddenly appear like that, 0 to 60 in what seems like a very short time. They will flower next month and be gone again by summer!

mewkins · 13/04/2023 19:29

Muscari/ grape hyacinths. They should flower soon. I have to dig loads out every year as they spread rapidly.

capecheckmaskcheck · 13/04/2023 19:29

Bluebells. I have tonnes in my garden and I leave them be.

brawhen · 13/04/2023 19:32

@breakingboundaries I think woodrush is more 'grassy' looking that the OP pics, and appears in separate clumps which tend to have gaps in between. Less common to see it in a garden rather than growing wild, I think.

I could be wrong!

TheIsleOfTheLost · 13/04/2023 19:34

I would guess bluebells, but hard to tell until one flowers. If they are hybrid ones then pull them up unless you particularly like them. The bulbs go very very deep, so you will be pulling them up for years to come. I have reduced mine, but as they grow under the fence from next door i will never truly get rid.

Bluebells

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 13/04/2023 20:04

You guys are ace. Knew you wouldn't let me down. So, is it awful that I hadn't even noticed the flowers!

And yes, it makes perfect sense that it disappears of its own accord which I can absolutely live with.
I have tons of wild garlic that has just been pulled up so could do without something else to tackle.

Ive just nipped into the garden before it gets dark to take some more pics. Do the close ups still suggest bluebells? I tried with and without flash so hope this gives you enough.

They still look like bluebells to me.

Custardbanana · 13/04/2023 21:52

Bluebells for sure

FictionalCharacter · 13/04/2023 22:32

Yes, that's 100% a bluebell flower spike.

heldinadream · 14/04/2023 08:42

Also bluebell leaves tend to do that characteristic flopping over thing, so I'm also 100% bluebells now.

No, that’s a plant app complete fail! Not even right family.

The first picture is very clearly bluebell, with a bluebell flower spike showing. Possibly native, but the leaves look a bit broad, so more likely hybrid (pure Spanish are incredibly rare in Britain)
