What are your favourite blue flowers?

I love blue flowers and am trying to squeeze some more into the garden this year! I have forget me nots, borage, salvia, Felicia, brunnera, Alkanet (I know it’s a thug, but I have a little patch of it as I love the flowers!).

Can anyone recommend me some more to try to find? The more blue (not purple!), the better!

Echinops

blue spires salvia was gorgeous last year and didn't stop flowering until the first frost.

DrRuthGalloway · 05/05/2022 18:44

Morning glory and certain clematis. Periwinkles. Delphiniums. Bluebells.

One of my neighbours has a bright blue fleabane - no idea what it is called but very pretty mounds of blue daisies

Brachysome looks like blue fleabane, might be that.

A sea of cornflowers: bliss.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/05/2022 19:24

Delphiniums and bluebells.

Blue corydalis is lovely if you can get it to grow. I’m inundated with the common yellow sort, unfortunately!

Gentian.

Iris.

Forget-me-nots.

Prefer blue hydrangea to ceoanthus. I'd add some white ones as well to highlight the blue.

Perennial Flax. Like blue pennies swaying in the breeze above delicate foliage.

Blue bells are just gorgeous, and the promise of summer to come.

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 05/05/2022 22:25

Catnip. The bees will thank you

GrumpyPanda · 05/05/2022 22:31

Lobelia.

SiobhanSharpe · 05/05/2022 22:37

At this time of year, Aubretia tumbling down over a stone wall is just beautiful.

AlisonDonut · 05/05/2022 22:38

Anagalis and Anchusa. Plus blue salvias.

SiobhanSharpe · 05/05/2022 22:43

And don't forget pale sky blue wisteria clinging to houe walks. It's almost fully out here (Cambridge) and is lovely..
But for me the best blue flowers I've ever seen are jacaranda trees in blossom in Pretoria in spring (September). They are deep blue and so abundant Pretoria was (is?) known as Jacaranda City.

SiobhanSharpe · 05/05/2022 22:44

...or even house walls...

I love my Sollya (bluebell creeper). Lovely blue flowers over a fairly long flowering period.

MereDintofPandiculation · 06/05/2022 09:59

Anchusa azurea. Same family as forget-me-not, borage, Brunnera and alkanet, an even deeper blue than alkanet, 1-2m tall and flowers all summer. An outstandingly good plant, should be better known.

Mamanchien · 06/05/2022 12:34

Mountain cornflower and nigella.
