IThey need potting up in deeper compost, feed and water over Summer so bulb lasagne may be the answer. Any tips for a rookie please? What size pots are best? I have blue grape hyacinth flowering well, white tulips in leaf*
Tips for narcissi or bulbs in general?
For narcissi/daffodils, tulips and hyacinths (the big blousy kind not the blue muscari grape variant) the best advice I can give is plant DEEP
Especially for tulips.
Plant deep.
I had a few big blousy hyacinths I planted last year come up completely blind without flowers and the usual cause is being planted too shallow.
I have replanted them all deeper now, luckily most of them did develop flowers, though slugs damaged a fair few of them π‘, when the leaves start dying Iβll dig them up and bury them even deeper.
Grape hyacinth/muscari is ridiculously easy to grow.
Iβm absolutely drowning in them.
They self seed everywhere and will flower in my experience even if planted quite shallow.
I donβt tend to use pots much because Iβm very bad at remembering to water them but I would say to look for pots that are more tall rather than wide so the tulips, daffodils and hyacinths can go down deep enough.
Re compost, fertiliser etc.
I donβt give my plants any special care at all.
Sometimes if I feel generous over Spring I might do a sprinkle of fish, blood and bone.
I might very rarely add a sprinkle of compost too but no care at all really.
DH tends to water them if itβs really hot as again, I tend to forget!
