Has anyone put one down?

Just interested in how its faired. If you have any pics that would be great.

I'm mulling the idea of it because itll bring a fresh, light look to the garden and would love to hear the practicalities of having one before spending all the money

I don’t have one, but know some people who have a very pale grey one. I’d be concerned about slipping on the wet surface as being smooth, the tiles have little friction. Staining by bird and other animal droppings could be an issue and the growth of moss or weeds in the joints.
They could be quite a challenge to keep pristine.

My neighbours have one but I can't get a photo. It still looks good after a couple of years. They power wash it two or three times a year and it comes up like new. The rest of the time it's quick sweep. It can be a bit blinding when the sunlight hits it though.

Thanks for the comments, usual info

My BIL had one. It was slippery when wet to the point of being a death trap. I also personally thought it looked very bright, but that’s personal taste. He took it up in the end as it was so slippery.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 24/08/2021 21:43

My friend had one and she slipped and sliced her little toe off on the edge of it. It was horrifyingly dangerous! She's got rid of it now.

It looked nice but she has stone slabs now which are also nice and she gets to keep all her remaining toes which is a bonus.

Goingoutinthecar · 24/08/2021 21:46

Omg, sliced a toe off!

Crockof · 24/08/2021 21:48

Agree with slippery as fuck. If you enjoy falling on your arse when sober it is the flooring for you.

HazyDaisy123456 · 24/08/2021 22:05

We have had one fitted last month.

We haven’t properly tested it in the rain. But ours has a slight texture to it but rain looks to sit on it for a goodly while.

It is extremely bright almost dazzlingly bright like snow and ours has been very badly laid. See other thread.

We have a black stone border/edging to it so fingers crossed no one looses a toe.

I hose it down when I notice anything on it as I am still new fangled with it but I think a dark grey would be more practical or better still go for stone.

Spectre8 · 24/08/2021 22:05

Hmm the ones I am looking at have a slip resistance rating of 11 which is what patios shoulld have:

Ooh that will show up the bloodstains feom the swvered toes beautifully (sorry, couldn't resist)

567and · 24/08/2021 22:11

We've just put down a pale grey porcelaine patio and ours has a slight texture so it isn't slippery at all in the wet. Ours is also edged with a wall. so no chance of toe slicing (ouch!). I'm not sure how it will fare as it's still very new, but a friend has porcelaine tiles in their garden and they still looks lovely 3/4 years on.

Spectre8 · 24/08/2021 22:35

Not sure why I'd be slicing my toe if my edges are not exposed. Will be having a dark grey border around the patio to provide some contrast.

I currently have concrete pavers and they go black with the dirt and need jet washing so sure patios will get dirty regardless.

I ordered some samples and will leave them out over winter to see

@567and if you could post a link of the light grey you used that would be great - just so I can compare specs

This is our white porcelain patio week one. I don’t have a link to the slabs as they were purchased from a local builders merchant.

Personally, don’t like white flooring inside or out. Can look very stark/jarring in a garden

PegasusReturns · 24/08/2021 22:57

I have one - I’m not going to photograph it but it looks amazing. When it is clean.

It requires a lot of sweeping and regular jet washing to look really pristine which is an effort but it is beautiful.

My garden is multi layered and so I have steps, a patio area and terraces all in porcelain, broken up with lots of planting (which adds to the beauty but makes it more difficult to keep clean).

No issue with it being slippery.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 24/08/2021 22:58

I had a pale grey porcelain patio laid over 3 years ago and it's fab. Not at all slippery and doesn't stain. We power wash once a year and hose down/sweep to keep it looking good.

Looks lovely!! Go for it!

mafted · 24/08/2021 23:21

I'm really happy with ours, despite not being 100% convinced when DH ordered it, ours is pale grey (although it looks white to me) It isn't slippery in the slightest, the tiles are rough to touch. It can look grubby pretty quickly but cleans up like new with a jet wash.

SIL and BIL have both copied but went for cheaper, thinner tiles which are slippery when wet. However they clean theirs more easily with a mop.

Dreamstate · 24/08/2021 23:54

Wow nice pics everyone, thanks for sharing 👍

I do see how white would be very bright but I do love how it looks. I'll check out some light freys and get some samples too.

Really nice to see those with darker grey borders as in my head I could visualise how it might look but always better to see real life examples.

I have a designer planning my garden so ill also consult with her on colour too.

My idea behind white is it feels like your garden is more like away your on holiday and I'm prepared to do some extra cleaning to keep it looking good, extra exercise is never a bad thing.

Dreamstate · 25/08/2021 00:13

Just realised I set up the post on my laptop which has a different name, I couldn't remebee my password and ending up setting up a new one on my phone Grin doh

PickAChew · 25/08/2021 00:15

Wouldn't it be a deathtrap in anything but warm, dry weather? So basically for 11 months of the year.

PickAChew · 25/08/2021 00:18

And none of the pics are selling it to me. Sorry.

Dreamstate · 25/08/2021 00:35

@PickAChew

And none of the pics are selling it to me. Sorry.
Well I'm not asking for anyones design or style opinion.

I'm looking for info from those who have actually installed porcelain patios and light coloured ones to see how ifs working out for them.

You obv don't know much if you call them death traps they have a high anti slip rating, as high as you can get.

Crunched · 25/08/2021 00:50

Oh these look so nice.
I think they look stylish enough to risk the odd toe Wink
