What are your favourite blue flowers?!

I have decided that blue flowers are my favourites and I want some more!

So far, I have..
Hydrangea
Brunnera
Forget me not
Borage
Lithodora
salvia blue butterflies
Bluebells
Agapanthus

Can you recommend me something lovely? The bluer (less purple!), the better!

Anchusa azurea - borage family, midnight blue, in flower all summer. Flower spikes to a metre high in abundance. Absolutely stunning.

Decaisnea fargesii has striking blue seed pods.

Borage, it's not just the flowers I love how it is also covered with bees too.

I am also partial to hairy vetch for the same reason, it's flowers are blue/white but most online resources tend have photograph of tufted vetch which is purple/pink.

It is a crime no one has said Aster x frikartii Monch! Grin

Delphiniums are just Michelin starred diners for slugs. I've given up.

Delphiniums are my favourite blues and I'm having a go at growing them myself at the moment (from little plugs, not seed, I will admit) and I'm growing cornflowers from seed for next year. I also love blue flowers!

I now grow mine fairly successfully in pots with copper tape round them, and move them into the back of my borders (in the pots) when in flower.

Centaurea Montana

Caryopteris 'Worcester Gold' because the blue looks so good against the yellow-green leaves.

Troutfin · 18/08/2021 22:20

Agapanthus come in different blues, from pale to really dark, purpley blues as well as blue and white mixes. They are really stunning flowers.

Spring Gentian - protected wild flower in the Burren region of Ireland West - I promise it will take your breath away - it still does mine…

Porcelain blue cordyalis. The bluest flower, I know.

Catname · 19/08/2021 00:34

Lunaria Corfu Blue. Sold to me as a perennial but I got 2 years out of it. A new one has been purchased as the colour was so worth it.

Aconite if you don’t have to worry about poisoning unsuspecting children.

Catanache Caerulea.

Hosta Hydon Sunset. More of a purple but lovely combination with the leaves.

Pokhora · 21/08/2021 19:48

I almost bought one of these. It looks very pretty but not sure how hardy it is.

Agapanthus are absolutely stunning and beautiful.

Salvia patens (gentian sage)
Anemone blanda

ConferencePear · 22/08/2021 18:10

Morning Glory.

Barkyboots · 22/08/2021 19:33

I don’t think anyone has mentioned Scabious? They are just beautiful and if you get the right one, a gorgeous true china-blue colour. They are heavenly, swaying in the breeze Smile
