What are your favourite blue flowers?!

Appuskidu · 14/08/2021 19:50

I have decided that blue flowers are my favourites and I want some more!

So far, I have..
Hydrangea
Brunnera
Forget me not
Borage
Lithodora
salvia blue butterflies
Bluebells
Agapanthus

Can you recommend me something lovely? The bluer (less purple!), the better!

Oh this is the tough one!

Hardy plumbago

Nice colour but not as showy as the other. Looks a bit like vinca Smile

WeAreTheHeroes · 14/08/2021 20:46

Gentians are blue too

I love lithadora but mine never looks like that - it’s all straggly brown bits with a few green leaves on the end Grin
The flowers are an astonishing colour though.

I have this and mine definitely looks more blue than purple.

yodaforpresident · 14/08/2021 20:52

Campanula is also lovely if not already mentioned

DaisyWaldron · 14/08/2021 20:54

I like Rozanne geranium, but it's quite purple.

StellaOlivetti · 14/08/2021 21:06

Yes, hyacinths how did I forget! The scent is incredible. Also lilac but I guess that is more purple

NotMaryWhitehouse · 14/08/2021 21:13

I've just planted a lovely salvia called 'African Skies', it's heavenly!

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/08/2021 21:15

Blue sweet peas 😍

RoseAndGeranium · 14/08/2021 21:20

I love cerinthe. The pics I’m getting through google seem to emphasise its purple shades but the ones in my garden are a lovely moody blue. The flowers start fairly early in spring and keep going for absolutely ages, and they are no bother at all to look after.

Boredmotherofone · 14/08/2021 21:24

Morning Glory & Sweet Pea

Boredmotherofone · 14/08/2021 21:25

Lobelia "Crystal Palace" Nigella (Love in a Mist) Cornflowers Chicory, which grow wild all over BC where I live (picture)
That's purple ☺️☺️☺️
Boredmotherofone · 14/08/2021 21:25

@LoveFall

BC is British Columbia, in Canada.
A fabulous, beautiful place! I know it well. Miss it very much
EchoElephant · 14/08/2021 21:30

Ceratostigma willmottianum
Caryopteris 'Heavenly Blue'
Perovskia 'Blue Spire'
Platycodon grandiflorus
Festuca glauca

Appuskidu · 14/08/2021 21:35

Great suggestions! I already have a few of these actually-ceanothus, Nigella and festuca Glauca.

Has anyone successful grown blue Mecanopsis??

I have some Apple of Peru in my garden. Beautiful blue flower which then turns into a Chinese lantern. My Mil gave me a plant about 5 years ago and it has reseeded.

Easy to grow. Minimal care and beautiful

NanTheWiser · 14/08/2021 21:39

Yes to the above plus:
Salvia ‘Blue Note’ an intense royal blue,
Omphalodes cappadocica, a small low-growing perennial that likes shady woodland conditions, and is the same Boraginaceae family as Brunnera.

Vulgarlady · 14/08/2021 21:42

Penenstum electric blue

My gorgeous Himalayan Poppies.

asparalite · 14/08/2021 21:44

Echinops, another easy to grow plant with blue globe thistle type flowers in late summer.

OllyBJolly · 14/08/2021 21:50

I have some stunning agapanthus on show at the moment and they bloom for ages. My very favourite is delphinium but I’ve not had a lot of luck with them. Have two in pots at the moment. One is glorious one hasn’t flowered, no buds, so not likely this year.

I have had a stunning blue phlox but it’s not come up this year.

Gorgeous blue salvias. ( I should really keep the names of my plants!)

No luck at all with meconopsis this year. The leaves come up but no flowers.

Rainallnight · 14/08/2021 21:54

Himalayan poppies. Can’t remember their proper name

TalesOfDrunkennessAndCruelty · 15/08/2021 00:29

I got some meconopsis (Himalayan poppies) this year but am struggling with them. I had to take them out of the flowerbed because the local cats kept pooping on them and then uprooting them as they covered the poop, but they seem unhappy in pots. They will be stunning if they flourish.

Polemonium is a good blue, although verging on the lilac.
