Cat pooping on my lawn!

jessicakxx · 11/07/2021 08:29

Hi; sorry if this isn't the correct heading to be posting under. A local cat is pooping on our lawn every night (or early morning) the same side of the lawn every night. Been happening for around a week. I've completely hosed down the lawn and garden and also put cinnamon all over the lawn. This has not helped the cat returned last night and has pooped again on the lawn.

Please can anyone help, what do I do? We don't have any pets and the fact I'm cleaning up someone else's pets poo is getting me down (not to be helped with pregnancy hormones)

Thank you!

Are you sure it's a cat? They usually cover.

rookiemere · 11/07/2021 08:39

There used to be cat poop on our lawn a lot, it's a bit of a myth ( generated by cat owners) that they cover.
I bought a bottle of a squirty gel that you put over the grass and that seemed to put them off. It wasn't cheap, but once they'd got out of the way of using our garden I didn't get a reoccurrence for a few months.
Don't do what we did and get a dog - deals with the cat poo situation nicely, but brings its own challenges.

WildfirePonie · 11/07/2021 08:54

Cat proof your garden so it can't get in.
Run and scream in it's face every time.
Bang some pots while running towards it.
Spray the fker with a hose every time.
Grab some local cat poo and smear it on your fence to mark your territory.
Put a litter tray in the area it poops.
Rent a dog to chase it away.
Get your own cat to patrol and control the garden.
Throw orange peel on the ground.
Grow plants that cats hate.

Not much else you can do.

My cat does this on MY lawn. It drives me nuts!!. Try coffee grounds (or cheap instant coffee). That works - temporarily if nothing else. But hopefully it will find somewhere else in the meantime.

Thanks all, the issue is it is doing it between when we go to sleep 10 and before wake up 6:30...

I have just hosed down garden again and have tried some absolutely random stuff that I had in the house. I have chucked a bucket of peppermint tea water over the lawn. Some white vinegar spray and don't laugh.. neuterdol carpet deodoriser.... just until I get some of the cat gel recommended above in the post!

Just so frustrating because it absolutely stinks; and we don't even have a pet yet I'm picking up pet crap!

Are you sure it's not a fox? Cats are much more likely to use flower beds or gravelled areas than lawn. Of course it could be a cat but I think fox is more likely.

jessicakxx · 11/07/2021 09:33

@that1970shouse doesn't look like fox poop, although obviously not something I've studied massively 🤣

Plus I read foxes won't tend to poop again in the area if you leave a new item in the area which I did and it did nothing x

Is there anyone else in your house that can pick it up? Advice is not to pick up cat poo if you’re pregnant

jessicakxx · 11/07/2021 09:45

@Ohnoohnoohnonononono partner has picked up most of it, I picked up two lots although I wore gloves and used a shovel 😕

I have cats, and I have had foxes visiting for years. There is not a lot of difference in their poo.

whatisthisinhere · 11/07/2021 10:03

Foxes will poo in a prominent place to mark around their territory.

jessicakxx · 11/07/2021 10:17

@whatisthisinhere don't think it's fox, there isn't really a way a fox could get into our garden unless they can climb up fences?

A motion sensitive water sprayer will deter a lot of cats. They're not all that expensive online, may be worth a try.

jessicakxx · 11/07/2021 10:34

@RuleOfCat that's a good idea! Will have a look on Amazon now x

@jessicakxx that’s great he can do the majority. It’s really annoying, we have cats poo in our garden too

whatisthisinhere · 11/07/2021 11:30

Foxes can definitely go over fences, they get from garden to garden doing so in my street.

Northernlurker · 11/07/2021 15:28

If it reeks and is visible it's a good chance it's a fox.

VenusClapTrap · 11/07/2021 15:33

If the poo is in the same location every time, that suggests it’s a fox. They climb over fences with ease.

Human male urine is supposed to deter them. Get your Dh to pee over the area!

I sympathise because we had a fox doing this for a while and it was awful.

jessicakxx · 11/07/2021 15:42

@VenusClapTrap it's not the same spot but over the left hand side of the lawn in various places...

Perhaps it is a fox! I will perhaps try this method, when it's dark so neighbours can't see 😂 x

OP posts:
VenusClapTrap · 11/07/2021 15:51

If your Dh is a little shy (like mine was) he could pee in a jug and then sprinkle. Wink

Another thought - if it is a cat, keeping your lawn as short as possible might help.

Mumdiva99 · 11/07/2021 15:51

I always popped a bit of bleach in the spot on my lawn. Kills the grass but deters the cats. The grass grows back quickly.

Or a motion operated cat detector. Battery operated, makes a high pitch sound.

Lillipops · 11/07/2021 15:53

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9219139. You need 1 of these possibly 2 depending on the size of your garden. Local cat was using our front lawn as a litter tray, we got 1 of these but got another as it then pooped under a tree. Another one of these pointed at the tree and not a poop since January. All our neighbors have now got them because said cat is now popping in their gardens Grin

jessicakxx · 11/07/2021 17:58

Thank you all for your tips, I am going to do as many as possible :)

All, sorry for the TMI pic... what I put down yesterday hasn't deterred, does this look like fox or cat?

OP posts:
Mumdiva99 · 12/07/2021 13:50

No idea sorry. Fox poo is suppose to stink....but since getting cats I can say their poo stinks too.

Definitely go with the bleach thing....
