Plant ID please! Amazing scented climber?

Hello! Every day I walk past this climber growing over a sunny wall. It smells unbelievable- stops me in my tracks every time. Been flowering for the last month or so. The flowers are tiny, yellow/green clusters, see picture. The leaves are quite glossy, not sure if it’s evergreen or not.

I have no idea what it is or even what family it is but would love to track it down and get one for my garden! Any pointers please?

^^ They smell incredible. One of my favourites.

@whatisheupto

I think it's an orange blossom.
Oranges grow on trees though

Thinking I can recall the scent of this from somewhere - an exquisite lemony scent?

I am probably wrong - but possibly a variety Hoya?

It matches pictures of stauntonia hexaphylla.

Sausage vines! What a name. Think I'll stick to Stauntonia.

Will definitely have to check this one out, I love scented climbers.

Ah this is helpful thanks! I will have to keep an eye out and see if it develops purple sausage shaped fruit…. then we will know!

I’m not sure if I would call it a lemony scent Synchro or at least not strongly lemony. It’s just very florally fragrant, maybe a bit honeysuckley?

AlwaysLatte what an obvious solution!! Yes I could just ask!

@minipie Could you go to a garden centre and ask a horticulturist there ?
Though in my local Homebase style place but not Homebase, I usually get the assistant who is just doing the minimum wage job and hasn't a clue about plants and couldn't care less either. Smile
When you find out will you keep us posted please.

Oranges grow on trees though

An orange blossom is a mock orange, it's a shrub, not a true orange.
OP look at a Choisya (Mexican orange) in a garden centre. Star shaped flowers and dark green glossy leaves.

I'd have said orange blossom was orange blossom, it also smells gorgeous. Unlikely to be found outside in the U.K. in may of course so I should have realised what you meant. Smile Mock orange is philadelphus. But both that and Choisya are shrubs not climbers, so not the OPs mystery plants - though if she's after lovely scent rather than necessarily a climber they're definitely good ones.

Any answer yet to what it is @minipie ?

minipie · 08/06/2021 10:39

I haven’t been brave enough to knock! It’s on a shared wall between two end terrace houses so not quite sure which house it is. But am pretty sure it’s one of the Stauntonia/Holboellia family.

Any update re the plant ?

Rollercoaster1920 · 01/10/2021 11:34

If its hanging over the public footpath I'd say a cutting is fair game! My mum used to propagate all sorts of things that she saw when walking past.

Did you ever find out what the plant is ?
