Show us your peonies!

I remember a lovely thread a couple of years ago, maybe, where everyone shared photos of their peonies as they flowered. I realised from that that mine was late flowering, and that the flowering season for it was fairly short, even by peony standards.

Mine is still in bud. I think its a Sarah Everard. I've also bought a Shirley Temple this year, but not expecting much from it yet. I would love a Duchesse de Nemours.

Would anyone be willing to start us off with their photos?

Oh I lied, first shrubby peony to flower. The tree peonies have been and gone- this was the first first.

I had four blooms that were out for no longer than a week! Not sure what is the point of having a plant that is either non existent or just a generic bush for 51 weeks out of 52! Are they meant to be out for longer than that?

I think they take a while to get going. They also like a cold frosty winter.

They also seem to like a specific ratio of sun and rain in Spring other wise they sulk or just flounce dramatically and then go off.

I have white ones which are shit frankly. They aren’t out yet and will probably go brown or get eaten by ants lMuch nicer white blooms available. I saw spectacular pale pink ones today in a public garden but they were past their best already. Tree peonies are much the best,

Mine have been in for probably 6 years of more, every year has been a disappointment, mostly the weather has destroyed them very quickly, last year it gave me one flower only so I threatened it with the compost heap. But this year has been spectacular, I know I’ve already posted a pic but have another. I feel like a proud mum.

Every year this beauty gives us the most gorgeous flowers, planted a few new bulbs two years ago, and one is going to flower this year, can't wait to see it.

That's lovely @Billybagpuss!

Both of mine are still in tight bud. I can't wait for them to open - all 3 buds!

LaMariposa · 09/06/2021 18:10

No idea what variety these are. We’ve moved into a new house and have quite a lot of peonies mostly half buried by goosegrass. They are pretty though.

At long last my paeonies have deigned to flower ( well, some of them) I thought they were going to stay in bud forever!

I love mine. Loads of buds this year. Have no idea what type it is, they were here when we moved in 18 years ago.

That looks Sarah Bernhardt to me @CurlyhairedAssassin it’s beautiful

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/06/2021 21:40

@Billybagpuss I think you could be right! Some photos show it as a darker pink though. This is very ethereal pale pink. Perhaps it depends on soil type as to what type Of pink it comes out as.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 13/06/2021 23:17

Mine were out Friday! Absolutely massive though.
Last year they were the size of an average rose. Thus year they are like a floribunda rose on steroids.

They are pretty but I have a minuscule garden. I moved them to the front of the bed to get light last Autumn. Now they have stopped anything else from getting light and look very out of proportion. So I’ll need to move them back for next year.

@ImFree2doasiwant

No idea what it is, it was here when I moved in 11 years ago! Its always gorgeous, but could do with moving. I've put it off as I don't want to kill it!
Mine has been moved at least four times and was better than ever this year.
Puffinhead · 17/06/2021 08:45

My first to flower, taken this morning.
@BringPizza, could you tell me what this is called please? We bought one recently, that has just flowered, but completely forgot what it was -no idea how to care for it!
Scarby9 · 17/06/2021 08:49

This was here when I moved in 20 years ago. I read that paeonies don't like to be moved so I have left it alone, but it is in a really awkward place now!
