Monty Don has just posted this -

I am very sorry to announce that Nigel has died.
He slipped quietly away with no pain or suffering and is now buried in the garden with lots of tennis balls.
Rest now old friend. See you in the sweet bye and bye.

Aww.

I rewatched the Nigel bit too Sad

I don't know if any of you listened to R4 programmed about Melancholy, Monty was interviewed talking about his battle with depression and how gardening helped him. It was extremely moving as when he spoke about it he started to cry. He said that it was knowing how he should be feeling, but feeling so numb he couldn't feel anything. It made me consider about how he must be feeling about Nigel. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it. Smile

Still haven't watched that part of GW yet.

Yes I semi heard it, while I was on this! I knew he had a problem with depression. He gave up G.W. for a while and it was public protest\demand that got him to continue!

frillyfucks · 20/05/2020 09:00

He was interviewed on breakfast news this past week and I thought the news presenter was bloody rude and cut him off as he was mid way through a heartfelt explanation as to why gardening is important for mental well-being.

We have two golden retrievers and the news of nigels death really upset me. The worst part of loving dogs is knowing you will have to say goodbye

Sobbed like a baby. I’d waited to watch until I was on my own as I knew I would. But family came home early, about 10 mins before the tribute!

Sleep well Nigel. Your a good boy

ppeatfruit · 20/05/2020 13:56

Oh dear did they catch you Evil ?

EvilPea · 20/05/2020 21:37

They did. Blush
bad news about a relative “oh dear, that’s sad”
A happy, loved dog dies of old age, that I’ve never met. Sobbing away.

Russellbrandshair · 20/05/2020 21:39

Awwww poor Nigel- he was a gorgeous dog and the only reason I watched to see the three lovely dogs. Run free Nigel ❤️

I know, me too Evil We get so emotionally involved in the telly and with animals. (I can't watch those cruelty to children and animals promos) With Covid we are all on a bit of a knife edge I suppose.

But the telly is in our homes so Nigel was like OUR dog . I LOVE retrievers anyway
