Just having a new fence put up and due to have it painted. I like the look of the Muted Clay shade. Does anyone have this? Any other recommendations? Thanks

Buy a tester, its so worth trying before you buy. I have used silver birch on wood and also lavender. Friend has done their fence in urban slate which is quite dark but looks amazing.

Are you painting it yourself?

Phillipa12 · 05/09/2018 12:32

Ive used forrest mushroom, its more a concrete post colour rather than beige/brown.

Thanks for the replies and the pic. Muted Clay looks a more warm beigey/stoney grey I think. It's being painted by the guys who are paving the path and erecting the fence. Path is in raj Indian sandstone, the shade/mix is called green but isn't green....it's a mix of light greys and some sandy ish coloured multi sized paving stones. Am hoping for the fence to tone with that. Believe me, I have enough dilemmas and wobbles over interior colours, who knew there was a whole world of garden dilemmas just waiting to unfold!!!

That is gorgeous, garden dilemmas are harder than house dilemmas!!

Bluesheep8 · 06/09/2018 06:32

userxx Yes I'm rapidly realising that, I had no idea! The house had a low wall but no fencing when we bought it and crooked old uneven stone steps with a path that was botched badly laid black asphalt type stuff and looked really scruffy and unloved. Now panicking that the new path looks silly but it's too late now as it's laid. The trouble is, we were told to choose the stone for the back "yarden"/paved patio-to-be as I call it and said the same for the front. But I'm worried the front looks wrong....I will post a pic Confused

paving looks lovley I like the colour in the picture that they have on the little planter I think green looks nice with the colours of the paving. We have used the paint but a different colour I've o my got one side of our fencing in as the garden is a work in progress but we used sea glass which wouldn't match with your colours but it's good quality and looks good so I say go for it

MargotLovedTom1 · 06/09/2018 06:50

Yes, I used Muted Clay on our shed, with Jasmine White on the window frames and trims etc, and it looks great. Really easy to work with as well.

Bluesheep8 · 06/09/2018 09:35

Pics of path. Really not sure about it ConfusedThanks for responses about the fence, this is all new to me so really appreciate your advice...

I think it looks lovley and not silly at all once you get it done and you can get so.e nice pots and plants it will be lovley

Bluesheep8 · 06/09/2018 13:24

sleepyhead You've reassured me a bit, thank you. It's probably because I'm so used to ignoring it as it was so neglected and am just concerned that the paving is wrong for a path and intended for a patio iyswim. Just hoping the fence colour will go with it ok. Thanks again

no problem at all I think it looks lovley and once you get the fence painted and your own bits and pieces you will get used to it but honestly it looks really nice

ChishandFips33 · 06/09/2018 19:14

Looks lovely!

You're only focussing on the paving atm which is why it feels odd - when everything else goes in it will blend and you eye will be cast elsewhere ...it will also weather down a little

Enjoy your garden, it's heaps of fun as well as hard work

Bluesheep8 · 07/09/2018 07:04

Ah thanks all, this is completely new to me so your advice and opinions are a huge help. Update- fence has been painted in muted clay but it looks too pale so is being done again. The guy doing the garden has recommended a grey (the wall it sits on top of is grey stone and the house is stone) so I'm thinking silver birch now although he said a charcoal colour but I fear urban slate may be too dark.. got to decide NOW and text him...

Silver birch can look quite a flat grey, I like it though. Did he do 2 coats or just one? The paint takes on a waterproof effect once dried so you really need to repaint more or less straight away.

ChishandFips33 · 07/09/2018 19:35

Dark fences can be a great back drop to your plants (if you are having any)

Bluesheep8 · 08/09/2018 08:29

userxx he did 2 coats and it just looks very pale and 'nothingy'. Probably due to the fact that the walls are grey stone as is the row of houses so it just kind of disappears. I will post a pic.
chishandphips Yes that's true, hopefully will have plants a-plenty next summer. They've never survived before as we live in an area where marauding sheep run freely!

Bluesheep8 · 08/09/2018 08:33

Hence anything I've ever planted has become a sheep banquet pre Fence and gate.

This is two coats of sliver birch, I think it looks great with colourful plants.

justgotobed lovely pic, thank you! Looks great with the plants, it's a lot darker than I imagined so may be just the job. Thanks again

The guy who is doing the work has bought urban slate now though so too late to change it.looks v similar to justgotobed's pic though.. will post a pic of muted clay.

OP posts:
Justgotobed · 08/09/2018 10:30

Urban slate is lovely as well, very similar colour to our fence, we used it for the garden furniture as it had more of a sheen.

Bluesheep8 · 08/09/2018 14:25

Thanks justgotobed that's reassured me. Pic of muted clay...Just needs something more definite iyswim
