Looks like it could be comfrey. Technically a weed, but the bees love it, and it makes amazing liquid fertiliser. Gets quite tall, and usually has lots of purple trumpet shaped flowers.

JT05 · 19/04/2017 08:22

I agree comfrey, I do like a bit growing somewhere in the garden. It's great for bees and looks quite structural.

befuddledgardener · 19/04/2017 08:29

Thankyou.

second one looks like Lady's Mantle, very pretty green foliage plant, spreads like wildfire, but looks gorgeous after rain....the droplets sit on the leaves like mini crystal jewels.

befuddledgardener · 19/04/2017 08:42

Beautiful! It looks like a healthy specimen too

I agree comfrey and lady''s mantle. I will give both space in my garden - but not too much space. Both will spread madly if they are allowed.

Comfrey is good in compost, though, and you can make a liquid feed with the leaves. Might smell a bit lot as it rots down though.

EBearhug · 19/04/2017 08:54

Thistle, I think, in which case, get it out. Can't be totally sure from the photo, though, so I might leave it to grow a bit and see what the flower is like.

JT05 · 19/04/2017 08:56

That looks like a member of the thistle family, it could be a globe artichoke, a cardoon or just a huge thistle. Either way, if it's not in the way, I would keep it and see.

befuddledgardener · 19/04/2017 08:58

Brilliant. I'll wait and see

Lily of the valley, beautiful perfume
Euphorbia- the sap is milky and can be highly irritant, spreads quickly!

Is the 9am one a hellabore? 9.09 on left looks like forget me not not sure about the pic on the right - that might be a pic for the future

JT05 · 19/04/2017 09:24

Agree 9 am is a hellebore. The second later one looks exciting. Too early to tell, but it could be a day Lilly. It is obviously happy where it is. Once you know what it is, it looks as if you could split it next year and get more for another place in the garden.

JT05 · 19/04/2017 09:26

That particular hellebore, has tall erecting white flowers. It happily self seeds. And pops up in unexpected places! Which I quite like, but others would possibly see it as a nuisance.

ParadiseCity · 19/04/2017 09:31

What part of the country do you live in OP? Looks like you've been photographing my garden!! I have most of these and also find that fuschia grows really happily if you need any more plants.

Ifailed · 19/04/2017 09:36

This one could be wild garlic? Does it have a strong aroma?

Is this a weed?
befuddledgardener · 19/04/2017 09:49

Ifailed It doesn't smell of garlic

Paradise I live in Gloucestershire. I must get some fuchsia Smile

Pleased about the Hellebore. Ill probably move it because it's in a very odd spot

Surely a weed is just a plant you don't like the look of? If you like the look of it, keep it, the bees will thank you! Most people see dandelions as weeds but I love them!! I think they're like little balls of sunshine!

kingjoffreyworksintescos · 19/04/2017 10:01

The last one looks a bit like a poppy leaf

kingjoffreyworksintescos · 19/04/2017 10:07

Sorry I meant the 3rd (8.44) one looks like a poppy leaf
9.09 forget me not , and iris ? Or more likely a clump of daylily

LumelaMme · 19/04/2017 10:30

The one at 09:36:20 is definitely lily of the valley. It looks pretty, smells lovely and will look after itself (and spread into the lawn if you let it, but you can keep it contained).

If it's your first year with the garden, wait and see what comes up. If you like it, keep it. If you like it but it spreads too much, grub lots of it up later in the year. If it spreads so easily that you go off it, get rid of it (this may take years...)

It looks to me as if you have some good stuff. Those interesting sprouts at 09:09:03 - no idea what they are, but they look hopeful and non-weedy.
