Thread ready for results day tomorrow!

My daughter got her firm choice and A*, A and B (in PE). She was only 1.5 marks off an A in PE. She doesn't need an A grade for her uni so it's the right decision not to go for a remark, right?

My DD also got A* A B the B weirdly in her best subject. and the. A *in her worst. She thinks she probably focused on her worst more so it didn't slip. But shes into her firm and really doesn't seem to care. No one will care in a year. No remarks here.

No harm in getting the paper back for free to have a look and decide from there.

Is that an option, just asking for all of your actual papers back to look at them, mark them yourself and query the results? Free?

Liverpool was my daughter’s firm (which she chose over Nottingham) and she’s been accepted - it looks a great university in a great city so I hope your DD has a brilliant time

For 1.5 marks it’s worth her requesting papers. Basics like have they added up correctly. Go through carefully especially on essay questions she’ll know if there may be a mark or two potentially.
If you ask for a review it costs money but you get it back if mark goes up.
You can do one paper at a time.

@Rumplestiltz thats fantastic and he’d be a great mentor for younger students who may feel written off. Bet his old primary school would love him to give a talk.

Also happened to me (22 years ago). I now work at said institution 🤣

When I see images of young people crying and hugging and so on, I can’t help but wonder what world they are moving into. Will there even BE any jobs in ten years time? Especially intellectual and white collar jobs. AI seems to be advancing at such a pace maybe they’d be better off training as plumbers.

Thank you for the grade boundary links, DD is 4 marks off the predicted grade and now got an unconditional offer from insurance! @AuntyBulgariaMaths didn’t do that bad int he end, but FM mechanics! I remember asking you all about it as DD was not home until late.
anyway, looking to remark, but not sure if there is any room for 4 marks in FM

Oh god not the plumbers again! How many plumbers do we need? Especially if everyone is a plumber. Their earnings will drop through the floor! Especially if there's no one to pay for their work because no one has a job ( apart from plumber!)

I’ve been saying that since my child went to university 12 years ago. Though further education for the sheer joy of it is surely a good thing? Anyhow, as another post says, this is not the time or place for anything except celebrating these children’s successes and helping those who need it to work out what to do next if they haven’t got the results they wanted.

Agree. When you see images of young people crying and hugging, there's no cause to doom-monger. No one knows the future and the moment is a happy one. It's like seeing a happy couple getting wed and going about divorce stats.

We used to hear all this stuff about useless degrees and too many people going to uni when I went back in the 80s. Kingsley Amis was ranting about the horrors of university expansion back in the 60s.

There used to be a joke going around ;

Q. "What do you say to an English Cambridge graduate?"

A. "Burger and fries please."

Maybe being a plumber should be a positive choice and not the thing everyone is told to do instead of the Art degree they've set their hearts on?

God we all know okay. But could you just let people have this day to feel proud, excited etc without the prophecies of doom. 🙄

DC2 got their grades and is off to first choice uni so really thrilled. What are the courses that people are mentioning where they get £4000 bursaries to study? DC3 is applying next so I’ll have 3 at uni at once (£££ouch) so would love to hear more about these courses to nudge them in that direction!

Anyone still 'waiting on confirmation'?

Dds called the uni and they will get to her hopefully today? Apparently something with IT system.
We're hoping it's good news as surely if it's a no, they could have said?

DS got A star in maths and A,A,A in FM, physics and computer science. Got his first choice of Birmingham but is deferring for a year (possibly completely) as he has a DA. We’ve told him not to reject the offer in case he hates the apprenticeship.
