We may run out of fred before the end of exams @scandinavianyellow, certainly before results day.

gingercat02 · 16/05/2026 17:42

I actually came on to say, I have discussed Men B vaccs with DS, he feels there is no need. We may need to revisit that after exams!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 16/05/2026 17:55

Re the Men B vaccine, I have taken DS for it after the Kent outbreak, he had his second dose about ten days ago. His cousin is at Reading Uni and, similar to Ventress, we know several people at Henley college, it’s a very popular sixth form choice from where we are so feels a bit close for comfort. I’m so sorry for those poor teenagers and their families, just awful.

Ventress · 16/05/2026 18:56

😀@gingercat02

I’ve booked the vaccination for DS at Boots. Thanks for the tip @JustHereWithMyPopcornit does feel too close!

MamOfTwo · 16/05/2026 19:03

I called into Boots after work today and they said they had Men B stocks back in so will book online. If YP have the NHS app, they should be able to see which vaccines they have had on there if anyone wants to check if all up to date.

Continued good luck to all. If I was in charge, I would not allow exams on consecutive days!

Countrylife2002 · 17/05/2026 08:21

DD is back into it now thankfully. I’ve been taking time off work to be able to fully support and have a few days off next week as she has 3 exams including 2x3 hours on one day! After this week she’s halfway through but they’re much better spaced so it should get easier . I’ve suggested she take next weekend fully off and we do something nice , maybe cinema and meal out / walk etc. I’ve pointed out even in a full time job you get days off! She’s not convinced but I think she’ll agree come next Sat!

I’d vote for you @MamOfTwo

We are looking forward to half term @Countrylife2002. My sister in law is visiting next weekend so we’re planning a bbq. I’m hoping DS will take some time with us. I think the exams he’s not looking forward to most are this week. Be good to get these out of the way.

Good luck to all of our dc for this week 🤞

Fabfabfab · 17/05/2026 12:58

@Countrylife2002 two exams in one day sounds really tough. What subjects is she doing? Hopefully not two essay based exams. DC has two more exams this week, then a break until after half-term. He's busy studying today but was really tired yesterday and I found him asleep in the middle of the day poor thing. I've just been down to the shop to pick up lots of snacks to keep him going!

Fabfabfab · 17/05/2026 13:05

@Ventress @ComingInByAnsible If I remember correctly, your DC also have Exeter as insurance. Have you booked private accommodation in case they end up missing their firm? I'm thinking about it as I have read it's really hard to find something good/something that isn't a whole year's contract if we don't book ahead of time. Apparently it's really difficult to find university halls but some of the private halls are next to the campus. Is there anyone else with Exeter as insurance in this group who have thought about this?

BlackBean2023 · 17/05/2026 17:00

@Fabfabfabmy DC has Exeter as firm and we’re worried about accommodation. It’s almost overshadowing the worry that she won’t meet the grade requirements of her offer!

Fabfabfab · 17/05/2026 18:26

@BlackBean2023 I thought accommodation was ok for students with Exeter as their firm? I know they might not necessarily get campus based halls though. As insurance, it's definitely rather problematic and it sounds as if you are saying this could be the case for firm offers as well. Have you looked at any of the private options? There are some quite nice ones near campus which I'm thinking of booking just in case. DC is still hopeful he'll get into Durham but thinking it might be a good idea to have this sorted in case it doesn't work out like that.

ComingInByAnsible · 17/05/2026 18:27

@Fabfabfab, yes Exeter insurance here and that’s a really good point. We haven’t looked yet but we definitely should. How would booking private accommodation work for insurance if you then don’t need it? Presumably there would be a deposit that you would lose, or would you have to find someone else to take over the rent?

At the moment, it’s hard to get DS to think about anything other than the exams, as he is head down with revision. He hasn’t even applied for Warwick accommodation yet (although thankfully there is no rush as they say they treat everyone equally who applies by the deadline). Finance application was a very last minute rush!

Tebheag · 17/05/2026 19:13

Good luck to all doing exams this week. DS has three exams done a mix of study seeing mates and gym this weekend. I am just leaving him to it hoping he has done enough revision.

AuntyBulgaria · 17/05/2026 19:20

@Tebheag your DS has done more than mine if that makes you feel any better!

More economics and FM next week and not a jot of revision has taken place this weekend. I have tried nagging but it just causes arguments so I've given up.

I think this is a risk when exams are spread out. All rhythm is lost.

Tebheag · 17/05/2026 19:27

@AuntyBulgaria I spoke too soon he just got back had food and said he was off to the cinema.
Sorry to hesr your also having issues with revision time.
I gave up nagging as the only result was me having a headache !

Fabfabfab · 17/05/2026 20:29

@ComingInByAnsible I asked one of the private halls if the deposit is refundable and they said yes as long as you cancel within a few days of result day and can prove that they got their firm choice. It appears you have to pay some of the money upfront early August though which isn't ideal.

Yes - 6 hours of writing essays ! She’ll be dead on her feet when she gets home.

BlackBean2023 · 18/05/2026 06:14

Sociology for DD today - there was a spate of revision yesterday!

Business paper 2 and history tomorrow. History could be the kicker.

Ventress · 18/05/2026 06:40

Like @ComingInByAnsible, we haven’t looked at insurance accommodation @Fabfabfab. That response sounds very positive though

@BlackBean2023- is firm accommodation not guaranteed? It is for our son’s firm. I also remember that Exeter guaranteed accommodation for those coming through clearing last year. Did anyone mention this @Fabfabfab? It may be different this year of course as last year they were doing a vast amount of refurbishment work on various halls and placing students in other halls/locations.

good luck for Business 2 this morning @BlackBean2023and to everyone else taking it. DS has macro economics this afternoon. He’s not looking forward to it. History tomorrow then half term, thank goodness.

@Tebheag- I’m sure your son will be okay, he sounds a lot like mine in terms of coming in and going out!.

lots of revision over the half term I guess @MiniMidiMaxi- from what I see it’s science exams which seem to be later. Swings and roundabouts I guess - DS’s are all over on 4th June but started on 11th May which was the first day.

Anyway, good luck today to everyone taking exams 🤞💐

Ventress · 18/05/2026 06:42

Sorry, sociology this morning. Good luck all!

BlackBean2023 · 18/05/2026 06:58

Yes, Exeter guarantee accommodation for firms but they can’t guarantee choices or that it will be on campus. DD doesn’t want to live off campus so that might be a problem!

Ventress · 18/05/2026 07:11

I think that might be due to the refurbishment work @BlackBean2023. They are probably covering themselves in terms of halls. I think I’d be stressing that it’s very good that accom (wherever that might be ) is guaranteed. I know DS was way more relieved than I expected when we booked his accommodation (different system to Exeter).

DH went to uni many years ago and ended up in a flat off campus for the first year- he was very nervous at first but absolutely loved it once he’d settled.

ComingInByAnsible · 18/05/2026 09:24

Agree, @Ventress, that sounds a very promising response from the private hall provider, @Fabfabfab. Definitely sounds worth doing to potentially avoid last-minute scramble in August.

Good luck to everyone for this week’s exams! DS has three coming up, starting with macroeconomics this afternoon.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/05/2026 11:35

Good luck to everyone this week. DS's first one on Wednesday, now it's starting to feel real!

Rumplestiltz · 18/05/2026 12:38

Given the exams kicked off last week with a tricky geography paper that threw my ds, so pleased to hear him say sociology today was “great”. History tomorrow and more geography on Thursday.
