DS has a room! Thank you @MysticCatLady much relief all round 😊

Brilliant! What did DS go for? My DD booked John Tovell today.

Wehaditsogood · 27/04/2026 18:28

@AuntyBulgaria It is a scary thought. Only 2 weeks left. Our DS is focusing on Econ and his 3rd subject. Maths will be two weeks later, so that is on the backburner 🤦‍♀️😭
We are still waiting for his last offer (which is probably a rejection now), but he knows what he will firm.

Good luck to all the arty and musical girls and boys.

Ventress · 27/04/2026 19:05

DS booked a place in Goldsmid - he’s very happy as it’s in Westminster which is his favourite location, and has a small double bed which might be long enough 😂

John Tovell looks fantastic. Your dd will have a great time. DS is doing history and really looking forward to UCL!

thanks again, you are a star!

gingercat02 · 27/04/2026 21:12

Accommodation provisionally booked and first year finance done. It's really sad for a 17yo to have signed himself up to nearly £16K of debt

Echobelly · 28/04/2026 15:45

DH is visiting Manchester with DC so we'll see if they still want to stay in London or go for there instead after today. The two of them managed to organise a faculty tour and to meet some of the academics. DC has some concern about distance, which is kind of surprising given they are so independent, and size of the uni (they like the small cohort at Goldsmiths), but maybe a visit will help - or confirm they're not so comfortable with it. But it felt like they hadn't given it a chance by not properly visiting - they happened to go to an event there a few months ago, but it's not the same as avidly getting a faculty tour etc.

JessyCarr · 29/04/2026 11:59

How did the Manchester visit go, @Echobelly? We loved it when we went to an open day.

DD has her French speaking exam today, so I’m awaiting an update!

Ventress · 29/04/2026 14:36

I hope French speaking exam went well @JessyCarr

I’ve heard great things about Manchester @EchobellyI hope your dc enjoyed their day and the faculty tour.

Goodness, it seems so amazing that our young people are moving away and taking out debt @gingercat02I think they have to try and block out the amount or it gets overwhelming.

DS has a “mini mock” this afternoon. He has had them all week which is lucky as he seems to do no revision at home!

Fabfabfab · 29/04/2026 15:22

Hope the exam went well @JessyCarr

DC got his English coursework NEA back - 1 mark off an Astar which was a bit annoying. He only needs an A in English but obviously the higher the grade the better in case the exams are challenging. Not sure whether it’s worth having it remarked at this stage. No idea how it works. Saying that, I was pleased he got an A in the first place.

JessyCarr · 29/04/2026 15:24

French speaking went very well, apparently - thanks @Ventress . But then if there’s anything this girl likes doing, it’s chatting away in French! Bigger challenges to come, but nice to have 30% of a subject done.

JessyCarr · 29/04/2026 15:26

Oooh @Fabfabfab - one beastly mark! But then presumably the notional grade for the NEA doesn’t actually matter, does it? He’s got a good mark which will stand him in good stead in the final analysis. Well done to him.

gingercat02 · 29/04/2026 16:58

NEAs back here too 30/40 in history and 42/60 in Geography. Delighted with history bit disappointed in Geography. Just below an A on last years marks.
I'm very pleased, good step towards final marks.

MamOfTwo · 29/04/2026 20:11

History NEA back here too - A grade. I wonder how moderation works for NEAs - do all schools have to send some random ones off for moderating or not?

Fabfabfab · 29/04/2026 20:17

@JessyCarr thank you, he explained it to me earlier and I understand the system a bit better now in that they add all the grades up so it doesn't really matter being one mark off an Astar. Great that your DD did well in her exam today! Worth celebrating all the achievements at this point. DC is pretty happy with his English NEA and has gone out with his girlfriend tonight. Still waiting for his History NEA though. @gingercat02 @MamOfTwodo you happen to know what the grade boundaries are this year for A and Astar?

@MamOfTwo well done to your DC!

Successfully - I'm glad they did manage to get a faculty tour and to meet some staff, and visit the Manchester Museum that was interestingly political in line with DC's interests. They have said they will talk to friends who go to Manchester and Goldsmiths and make a call. DH says he is happier to accept whatever they decide knowing they have had a proper look at Manchester now. My advice would still be to go for Manc if all things are equal - it has the higher offer that they are, I'd say, 90%+ likely to meet, so then they could always have Goldsmiths as a fallback as even if something goes a bit wrong they'll still meet that offer.

ComingInByAnsible · 29/04/2026 20:49

Congratulations to everyone on the NEA results. @Fabfabfab, I don’t think we’ll know this year’s boundaries until after the results day (but maybe I am wrong).

Well done to your DD on French speaking, @JessyCarr! Sounds like she’ll be in her element next year.

Great news about the accommodation booking @Ventressand @MysticCatLady.

Hope Manchester went well, @Echobelly.

We had a really great day at the Warwick OHD for PPE today (apart from the hour-long traffic jam leaving campus at the end of the day). DS very impressed with the course, career support and the sports centre. He still hasn’t made up his mind between this and Exeter Econ and Politics though, and it’s now only seven days before his offers expire!

ComingInByAnsible · 29/04/2026 20:51

Cross-post with your update, @Echobelly, sounds like a successful trip!

gingercat02 · 29/04/2026 21:55

MamOfTwo · 29/04/2026 20:11

According to DS yes

Ventress · 30/04/2026 07:51

That sounds like a really positive visit @Echobelly I tend to agree that going for the highest mark as firm is a good idea.

Fantastic that your daughter had a good vocal exam @JessyCarr she will have such a great time in France.

I was going to mention moderation but others have already got there. DS has had both his history and English literature NEAs moderated and returned. He doesn’t know his grades, although he got max in both so presumably he will get A star, but it’s not yet a given.

Ds did a history “mini mock” yesterday- although it was all of last year’s exam so I think it was more than a “mini” exam! He said he has glad he didn’t do his A level last year!

It’s great that your DS enjoyed their Warwick offer holder day @ComingInByAnsible. I remember the sport centre as being really good! No pressure on just 7 days to decide 😱

PinkChaires · 30/04/2026 08:31

History NEA here-29. Quite pleased as i was stressing due to DD doing the majority in one all nighter😖 an A is in sight thankfully

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 30/04/2026 17:25

Well done to everyone's DCs on their NEAs! Keeping fingers crossed for the As and A*s.

Fabfabfab · 30/04/2026 18:08

Wow @Ventress full marks in both NEAs! Surely that's an Astar? Saying that, DC was one mark off a full score on the English NEA and was told that's an A. Got Astar in his recent mini mocks so it's all starting to come together hopefully.

@ComingInByAnsible I remember the sport facilities at Warwick from the OHD and was very impressed

HereWeAreToday · 30/04/2026 18:41

Full marks is amazing, well done to your ds. Dd dropped 2 marks on her geography and is thrilled. I’ve just made a serious error showing her the updated UCAS grades as she has a couple of grades in hand in each subject if I’m reading it right. Hope she doesn’t start to coast which is what she did in GCSEs

ArchitectureMum · 30/04/2026 19:57

The EPQ unmoderated marks have come back and are not quite what DD hoped for. It’s not going to have any effect on her offers so she just has to move on. A bit disconcerting though after so much effort and time.

The Art coursework marks aren’t actually going to be out for a few weeks when she will also hear her unmoderated exam marks. That will be the real crunch point. She needs one A* for Edinburgh and Art is probably her best shot at it so it would be amazing to have that sort of in the bag going into her other exams but if not, it will really throw her I think.

Tebheag · 30/04/2026 20:30

@Fabfabfab got to agree about the black to actually like him having it not had any issues. Makes me feel better about possible road trip to Europe in the summer.
DS never told me Geography NEA marks just said he got a B.
Still no luck on apprenticeship lots seem to start May June.
