GCSEs are over and we are beginning the next stage. Let's hope it's a bit less stressful than this summer has been! All welcome to discuss, share experiences and support each other as our children move into Y12/BTECs/apprenticeships and start a new phase.

Thank you. I found the support during GCSEs really helpful and look forward to sharing experiences as our DC move to their next stage.

You are all such a nice bunch of people so would love to keep this going as it was massively helpful to see how everyone was tackling stuff in GCSEs!

I’m new here but could definitely do with the moral support of navigating dc through A levels - hope that’s ok!
I’ve had one dc go through sixth form but with lockdowns etc it wasn’t a normal experience by any means.

It's my first and only go, so definitely hoping for wisdom from anyone who has been through it before!

DD had her induction day today and has come home sort of excited but also a bit stressed. She said the common room was massively noisy and she does struggle a bit with loud environments so I am uttering appropriately soothing sounds about how possibly everyone was just a bit excited and things may calm down.

First proper day is tomorrow.

I feel new to A Levels and potentially Uni at the end of it.

I'm actually not because eldest DD took that route but it was 15 years ago and quite a lot seems different now. Or I've just forgotten!

You could get her some of these. I have some and they're quite good at blocking out background noise when it's a bit much.

Thank you! I am going to show her and see what she thinks.

To add, they are very small so if she has hair that covers her ears they're not really noticeable. I know teens can be self conscious about stuff like that.

I literally just showed her and her first concern was were they going to be noticeable! She does have shoulder length hair so could definitely cover them up if she felt she needed to. Lucky she hasn't still got the buzzcut from Y10! I think we will give these a go and see how it works out. I'm actually quite tempted by a pair myself!

Thank you - I was a bit late to the GCSE forums but the advice received was fab. Not sure how things will pan out for the next stage but about to find out when college opens next week!

Hope all goes well for those starting 6th form/college.

I actually think they look quite cool but I appreciate what middle aged me thinks is no relevance really. 😂

Parent with D.C. going into year 13 here. If it’s a sixth form college expect a very different experience from secondary school. It can be a steep learning curve just being in an environment where planning planning is up to them

I Will join too please...
After a dreadful week with disappointing results and no offer, we had the current school give the 6th form offer for DD for alternate subjects.
I had to go and fight for it today as she had the grades for the other subjects.
I am relieved but equally anxious about how much work she will need to do to avoid being in this position in 2 years time.
But I am very grateful to not be in limbo next week..
Husband quietly left a can of pimms by my bedside today....bless him!
