The board is Edexcel. School is saying 80% but that seems quite high and looking at previous years grade boundaries it’s lower than that. Do what do you think DS needs to get an A?

More like 40%. Think it was 38 when my dd got an a 3 years ago.

2022 looks like just over 50%.

It'll be less next year though as they will be set at 2019 levels.

Yes, apologies, I was look in further maths! Maths was a little lower last year.

Boundaries are likely to increase in 2023, but not to 80%!

Might they be Are saying that they are expecting A grade students to be getting 80% in term tests? The grade boundaries are freely available, they shouldn't be getting it so wrong.

As in there'll be fewer As awarded so the grade boundary will be higher.

That’s reassuring thank you. We’ve just had parents evening and been told DS really needs to be getting 80% to get an A and it surprised me in a stressful way, especially when looking at how hard the papers look.

What grade did he get at GCSE? Is he currently year 12? Do you think they are saying 80% on the tests they are having in school right now as opposed to the actual maths paper he will sit at the end of year 13? Ds did maths and they were tested at the end of each topic so every 3 weeks or so. I can understand why they would say a higher percentage for those tests.

I think this post by the well respected noblegiraffe about maths is well worth a read. It is too easy to slip down with maths and then not be able to claw it back grades wise.
