GCSE year 2023 thread for parents

I'm setting up a thread for anyone who may be interested with children currently in y11. My dd has just left for uni and a thread for her year has been invaluable even though I only found it very late on.
DS will be 16 in December and looking to do a levels in the sciences. We've just started looking at sixth forms.

Hello! I know @NCTDN from the other thread and happy to join in here. DS is a bit of an all-rounder, but is thinking of engineering and therefore science A levels. He'll be sticking at his current school for sixth form.

Hi I would like to join, DS in year 11 planning to leave his school and go to local Sixth form college. He wants to do Maths, computer science and one other A level/BTEC

Ooh excellent, first child teaching this age so clueless about what needs to be done.
Someone told me 6th form application is like when you apply for school, a central county application form, is that right?

Hi @OnthePiste, looks like we have a STEMmy bunch so far!

@treesandweeds, I am going to guess that it depends on the county! Different parts of the UK have very different models for post-16 education.

Oh I never saw the other thread, but that link seems to just go back to this one? I sort of forgot that they're still secondary rather than further Ed at this point. I suppose I've been thinking about sixth form applications.

@treesandweeds not here it isn’t. You apply direct to our sixth form. Nothing goes through the Council.

So probably best to check with yours to see. I found following our sixth form Facebook page helped lots and told us how to apply.

DD in year 11;she wants to do IT and Drama at college plus one other;she's leaning towards history but also interested in criminology.

She's already done her IT GCSE at the end of year 10 and has a grade 9 in it.
