@JustHereWithMyPopcorn
Biology B was on the mean side, grade stats were closer to 2019 than 2021, A*s less mean but the Bs were very mean - 50.9% got B or better in 2019, in 2021 it was 71.9%, then this year dropped right back to 53.2%.
History was fairly generous, closer to 2021, but not much over mid point
Music was also on the generous side overall, so I don't know what happened for our disappointed musicians.

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn You need to ask for a copy rather than the original, then you can decide if you want to go for a remark.

Thanks @Decorhate does the copy have the marking on it or is it just DS's answers?

He did singing but then they upped and changed their system.

I’m so glad you have posted about this, @Piggywaspushed we were really confused!

We were just filling in the registration stuff that Birmingham sent through but it wants you to enter your term time address which we obviously didn’t have!

Logging into the accommodation thing then came up with all the stuff about a slot to choose your accommodation, which I thought we’d already chosen!?

Of course, even that wasn’t quite that simple as it should have been, as it didn’t immediately recognise her email and we had to reset the password first 😂

Has the Birmingham Fb parents group been useful-I will hunt for it!?

Dd is adamant to take the Cardiff place now. I've made her apply to Sussex course just incase, over next 24 hours she has to decide what's more important course content or distance to home.
My personal view is that she will thrive at Cardiff as the course is what she wants. They were so friendly and supportive. That will help her mental health. It is a bit further away, but then again Sussex is still 1 hour and half away. She'll be busy anyhow , whereever she goes and miss boyfriend.

I won't go into too much detail but DH being a bit of an arse about it . I've grassed him up to his Mum though.

I’ve got a feeling my DD will go for Cardiff too, though she does have an audition at Chichester tomorrow, so she got a cooue of days to decide. Meanwhile RH still not updated her UCAS…..and they weren’t particularly nice on the phone whereas Cardiff and Chichester were both lovely so she’s thinking she might be better off at o e those two anyway.

ealingwestmum · 18/08/2022 15:04

That’s always a good move Orange!

singingstones · 18/08/2022 15:05

That's great news Orange - sounds like she has some good reserves of resilience to have moved on and be feeling more positive about Cardiff. Please consider me a back-up to Also if your DD does come here and ever needs any support.

(Also good for you snitching on your DH, sometimes they bloody well deserve it)

Fruitygal · 18/08/2022 15:06

@CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee sounds like a good plan with both the other DCs we had changes on results day and were offered a foundation for a 1st choice …. We loved Cardiff when we looked round for unis for DS1 and friends children are there.

Fruitygal · 18/08/2022 15:10

@Benjispruce4 have you sorted things? Struggling to find your posts after the initial ones … I hope so x - sending a hug 🤗

Fruitygal · 18/08/2022 15:11

@BlueMarigold just woken up from an stress then relaxation exhaustion nap and wanted to make sure I’d congratulated your DD on her place at Birmingham x

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/08/2022 15:12

Thanks @Monkey2001 so this is where I find stuff misleading. The grade boundaries on History this year are extremely close to 2019. DS got 69% which last year would have got him an easy A* but this year is a B, I know I'm probably being really thick here but I don't understand how that is a midpoint?

Anyway, he is a bit shocked by his history grade full stop, it's his favourite subject and has always been his best, his mock was an A* and he felt all three papers went extremely well. Last night he was working out what points he got for each essay and trying to be a bit harsh on himself and felt worse case was 77-80%. His actual score averages 13 marks out of 20 for every essay and he's never scored that low, ever. I asked if he messed up one of them, effectively dropping the average and he's adamant that he didn't. I'm just wondering whether it's worth getting the scripts just to see where it went wrong. He doesn't need a better grade but I can tell it's rally bugging him.

Decorhate · 18/08/2022 15:17

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn I would assume it has the marks but hopefully someone who knows more will confirm

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 15:19

Dennis Sherwood would tell you history is notoriously unreliable for grade reliability, sadly. DS for his board got a top A on about 73 % I think.

It's roughly 90 % in film for an A*!

AnneOfCleavage · 18/08/2022 15:20

Found you.

Congratulations to us all on keeping our sanity waiting for this auspicious day. I have barely any nails left.

DD had to wait in line for her UCAS results to show so was a few minutes after 8.30am in getting to school to pick up her results but all her friends waited til she got there so could open altogether which was amazing and so lovely of them. She was thrilled to see she'd exceeded her predicted grades - she knew she'd got into her firm choice Uni but that was it - and the local paper wants to do a pic of her for the paper (assume tomorrow but may be online today too) so I must remember to buy one.
To say she's delighted is an understatement and she burst into tears when she saw she'd got in to her firm but was composed at school opening results but shocked to see she got an A in sociology. She was predicted a B but kept getting Ds on mocks and her teacher was less than complimentary so she was hoping for a scraped C so this was a shock surprise. It wasn't a scrape A either and her teacher could see from the paper breakdown on her computer that she got an A* on one paper. Thank you SO MUCH @Piggywaspushed for all your support and help and giving her a self esteem boost by telling her she was not a D grade student. She worked her socks off to prove that and it paid off.

Confused to see we only got a slip of paper with the subject and grade plus marks but nothing else so three lines. No individual paper breakdown or even an idea how she did on her History Coursework or dance practicals. We had to go home and look up the grade boundaries ourselves so know she was well into each of her grades and not a mark or two off the next one up if that makes sense so no point having a re-mark. Did you all get the same or is it up to each school to do what they like?

DD at a bottomless brunch now so it could get quite messy but the sun is shining so DH and I are just chilling in peace before family celebrations take place tonight.

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 15:20

I literally in my subjects can pick out sunshine and unicorns paper 1 marker vs curmudgeonly paper 3...

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 15:24

Wee tear in my eye there AOC. You are welcome 😀

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 15:26

@Fruitygal we are waiting to hear from U of Sheffield.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 15:27

Thanks though. Just took DD out for lunch to celebrate her achievement . Took phone, pen and paper and charged laptop but no response yet. She has friends over tonight and just want her to be happy before then.

AnneOfCleavage · 18/08/2022 15:31

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn OMG DD is the same with History. That is so interesting your DS is in the same boat. DD Was convinced she would have got higher especially as she got an A* in her coursework (well unless it got moderated) and also felt the questions went her way but is happy to have got her B - it was a high B but not super close to an A so not going to re-mark. One of her teachers phoned her up to congratulate her and did say she got 18/20 on a Witchcraze question where normally the teacher sees most gain 12/13. Her England topic teacher hasn't been in touch so no idea on his papers breakdown. He isn;'t likely to get in touch as he never answered email anyway. Seems they marked harshly this year then which is tough on our cohort. One of her friends didn't get his Uni choice reading History and had to opt for a different course so it mucked him up.

Oblomov22 · 18/08/2022 15:31

That sounds good Orange. I get she'll thrive at Cardiff.

Anyone else juggling, not sorted yet? How's Benji getting on? Anyone else?

So good to hear AnneOfC!

Zott · 18/08/2022 15:31

@CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee I honestly think Cardiff is a fabulous university, I would have loved DS to go there but he didn’t think he would get the grades (rightly as it happens!). Its good to hear your DD is bouncing back. It’s been a difficult week, and I do feel slightly shocked by the whole process. I think what I’ve found difficult is having no control over the outcome.

Anyone who has had very little sleep take care of yourself and avoid driving if you feel spacey.

Zebracat · 18/08/2022 15:32

@Benjispruce4 hope you get Sheffield , it’s fantastic there.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 15:32

See above @Oblomov22

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 15:33

How long will it take? Says she will be told as soon as academics have made a decision.🤷🏼‍♀️

Fruitygal · 18/08/2022 15:33

@Benjispruce4 Sheffield was our insurance for biological science - DD turned down Lancaster, Exeter and York fir the 2nd spot because she thought Sheffield was super friendly, organised and the course was well run.

We were pretty sure that’s where she would be and we were calm and happy about this despite Durham being her preferred place. Accommodation is good and not too pricy either.

So I have all my fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
