Quick question - Ds wants to contact Leeds to see what the situation is if he goes for a clerical check/remark. Anyone know if it’s just the clearing number he calls?

Hang in there Benji

Happy DD here. 3 x A stars and an A in AS Maths. That last one, as ridiculous as this sounds is the best result ever, as she climbed her way up from a D.

Fabulous, well done her! TCD looks like a shoe-in now, no?

singingstones · 18/08/2022 09:21

Orange I reckon if the music is close it might be worth phoning Southampton and asking what they think, they might not mind so much about the Eng Lit C if she can get the music up to a B?

craggyrat · 18/08/2022 09:22

DS got Cambridge. Bit bizarre though - you may remember the appendix and missing final French paper. Well that paper was marked as a C despite the fact he got A* in other French papers so he ended up with a B. He still got the place though. Phew.

DS got into Nottingham his first choice, unbelievable. I screenshot the message on UCAS and sent to my sister in case we were reading it wrong 🙈

He's gone to school to get his grades, DH gone out for champagne, me having a little cry remembering all the shit he had to go through to get here.

Wow Proggy she really smashed it!
And Zebra, huge congratulations, so happy for you and DD.

Well done everyone and I hope those who are disappointed will find their way (they will) and feel deservedly optimistic for their futures.

So pleased for him, singin!

Madhairday · 18/08/2022 09:23

Phew, DS into his first choice uni. But no grades yet as his college system keeps crashing. But at least now we can relax :)

That seems extraordinarily unfair - imagine if he had lost his cambs place over it? All’s well that ends well but grrrrr. Well done him!

Def worth phoning - and if central clearing doesn’t help, email directly the person who heard her audition. That’s how DD1 talked herself into her RG uni after missing her grades by a LOT

It was Sociology. But it was University of York she really had her heart set on and can’t give it up. We’ve just spoken to them and they were so blunt, there was no possible waiting list or chance to speak to anyone. She’s now talking to bf. Everything is up in the air now. Gutted. I expected a C for History but she was an A* student in Sociology and English all along. She is very disappointed in those two Bs.
Congratulations to all that were successful.

I’m really sorry Benji. But now that York have been very clear maybe she can look at other possibilities. There are lots of unis where she might be very happy, although she may not believe that now. Best of luck

mummyinbeds · 18/08/2022 09:29

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn @Oblomov22 @Heifer see you in Nottingham 😁

DS somehow did it. I've never seen him so relieved.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/08/2022 09:30

Yay @mummyinbeds !! Notts crew meet up on campus!

Ds got his insurance. (Sheffield). He seems disappointed but not distraught. Will go into school for results at 9

Sheffield is a fabulous student city. I am sure he will have an amazing time. Many if the clubs and bars, such as the Leadmill, are congratulating new students to the city and starting to list their autumn term events if he wants to take a look to feel better about his change.

Congratulations to all those getting results, whatever they are. These kids have worked so hard over a very difficult few years. They deserve all their successes in whatever shape they come.

Sorry to those just missing their grades but fingers crossed new plans can be made.

And try to reassure them that new plans WILL work out. Two years ago DD dropped grades and lost her firm. She went to her insurance where she had an unconditional place. Two years later and she's flying and loving every second, even despite going in a pandemic. This day 2 years back started with tears and upset, we sorted it that day but it was so hard. But looking back how the change actually was for the best - she has worked so hard, made amazing friendships and loves every bit of student life, both whilst away and when she is back in our home city with old friends. It will work out for them!

Anon778833 · 18/08/2022 09:39

Dd has got into her first choice, which is Cardiff to do Interior Design. But she is not massively happy with her grades - she was predicted A* A B and she got 3 Bs. But I think this is a very respectable set of results and the main thing is that she’s into her first choice.

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 09:40

benji - Lancaster has clearing places for sociology and is a- may-zing at it.

Comefromaway · 18/08/2022 09:41

Cardiff is great for music. but I know it will be hugely disappointing for her.

Does she have Grade 8 practical/Grade 5 theory that could be accepted in lieu? I would definitely get her to phone.

Oblomov22 · 18/08/2022 09:43

Just got back from School. Atmosphere was nice. Queue up to get your envelope. Very old fashioned. Saw a few parents known from primary school.

A* Sociology
A* Psychology
A Business
A EPQ

I went up and thanked and shook hands with his favourite teacher sociology.

Really pleased.

ealingwestmum · 18/08/2022 09:44

I hope so Delphigirl.

Orange, Wheresthebeach, I am in car right now so skimming all posts, but so sorry to hear today didn’t bring good news.

Piggy, Proggy, Shimy, fab news. And will catch up with everything else later!

mango0 · 18/08/2022 09:45

Well done to your girl @Zebracat ! I am so pleased for her and you.

There are some amazing results on this thread, I'm struggling to keep track, but well done to all!

And for those that didn't do as well as expected, my heartfelt best wishes in coming to terms with the disappointment and finding a different path. This has been such a challenging few years for our DC, hopefully these hurdles are what will make them stronger adults.

stephaniestephanie · 18/08/2022 09:46

Ds very happy got AAB and D in Btec music. Over his firm offer from first choice Bristol. Can't see UCAS info yet - not letting us in. But all good here.

Commiserations to those who are in a different frame of mind following disappointment and I hope that options are ironed out as the day goes on.

Fonty · 18/08/2022 09:47

DS got Exeter! I cried with relief as spent last few days putting loads of clearing stuff on a massive spreadsheet. See you there @Zebracat Delighted for you.
Sorry to those who didn’t quite get what they want. It will work out & definitely phone the unis. You just never know

ChristopherTracy · 18/08/2022 09:48

<stupid question> do they actually have to do anything to accept in the UCAS pub? DS has gone awol - probably drinking with mates in a park!

kepisback · 18/08/2022 09:48

Any advice welcomed - he's on hold to Cardiff now to see if he can get into any of the related courses but with CCD he's not hopeful :(

He wants to do Philosophy & Economics (BA) but passionate about all the PPE subjects. He had a mental health crisis in Feb and frankly it was a miracle that he made it to his exams.

And why is the search/filter so awful on UCAS?!

PaddingtonPaddington · 18/08/2022 09:50

Just back from the school after giving up with UCAS. Thrilled with BCC which was above predicted and accepted at Royal Welsh (EE). Teary eyes, now need to catch up with this fast moving thread.

I've just firmly told her to get to college and find out what she got in all elements. Problem is the English Lit was a C too...her offer was BBB

And the course is not in clearing. Just on my way to meet her at college. I'll let her call Southampton just i think it's a case of ruling it out.

Thanks to all those who have given positive messages re Sheffield. I know it will be absolutely fine once he gets over his disappointment. Just wish he had engaged with offer holder days so he was more familiar with it!

He got AAB, Leeds wanted AAA. I think in previous years they would have been more lenient with a dropped grade but we always knew this year would be tough. He’s on hold now, he was just a few marks off an A* in one subject so will ask Leeds if that would make a difference if he gets it remarked but I suspect they will say no this year. His B is too far from the grade boundary to be likely to change.

Finally got a chance to scroll back. Well done to all those who aced it, especially @Zebracat dd. And I hope those who are disappointed find someplace they are happy with.
