Thread 26 - Covid Cohort Hoping for a Stable, Successful 2022

999 replies

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 04/01/2022 08:35

previous thread

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

@ChristopherTracy

Just as we were humming along, DS managed not to turn up to a BTEC lesson today as he thought he was on A Level study leave. Please tell me other children do that sort of thing?
🙋‍♀️ DS did this the other day. I think he was probably skiving rather than mistaken but I didn't go there.
Fonty · 13/01/2022 11:55

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. TSR - The Student Room. I've just started to lurk there too! DS is applying for history. Birmingham, Exeter, Edinburgh, Durham & St Andrew's. I know most of these were completely oversubscribed last year so am praying he gets an offer from one of them!

estherfrewen · 13/01/2022 11:58

Hi @Fonty - my DS applying for various versions of history too

Zebracat · 13/01/2022 12:02

Hi @Fonty. We are also hoping for a history / flexible combined honours offer from Exeter.when did the application go in?

Monkey2001 · 13/01/2022 12:11

I am expecting universities which were burnt by TAGs to wait until March by which point we will know whether there will be exams.

Monkey2001 · 13/01/2022 12:22

Welcome @Fonty, I have a DS at St Andrews (medicine) if you want any St Andrews info.

Fonty · 13/01/2022 12:33

@Zebracat

Hi *@Fonty*. We are also hoping for a history / flexible combined honours offer from Exeter.when did the application go in?
Despite me getting on his nerves since beginning Nov to get it in, it was early Dec. Has your son had any offers yet - apologies if you've listed anything upthread which I missed.
Fonty · 13/01/2022 12:36

@Monkey2001

Welcome *@Fonty*, I have a DS at St Andrews (medicine) if you want any St Andrews info.
Thanks @Monkey2001. That's great to know. Hope your son is enjoying it.
Monkey2001 · 13/01/2022 12:38

@Fonty if you look at the 3rd post @singingstones has compiled a list of where everyone has applied and which offers are in.

singingstones · 13/01/2022 13:26

Maybe I should do a mid thread update in a minute..
Good news here as DD Y11 got an A* in her GCSE maths, which she took in November. May it be the first good grade of many in 2022 🙏

ealingwestmum · 13/01/2022 13:39

Aw Singing, that’s brilliant, a real, proper exam and grade! Well done to her.

Wheresthebeach · 13/01/2022 13:44

Oh how lovely @singingstones. Not easy in Maths!

SnowDropMania · 13/01/2022 13:48

Hi, just wondered if anyone knows when warwick biology normally reply as dd hasn't heard from them yet. She's heard from her other ones. Thanks

singingstones · 13/01/2022 13:49

Thanks Ealing, yes she will be very pleased with that. A really nice boost ahead of the next few months of revision.

Here's an update for our new joiners and the Oxford Trio amongst others Smile

(Obvs anyone please just say if you want to be removed)

icanbewhatiwant · 13/01/2022 14:15

@singingstones I'm not sure exactly what universities Ds applied to. Apart from Sussex and Lancaster. The ones he originally told me didn't have Lancaster on the list. I might find out at some point.

Zebracat · 13/01/2022 14:54

@singingstones. Well done to your Dd. Is it just me or is your wizardry with the list an indicator of a maths brain? I know I Couldn’t do the list or get an A* in a maths exam, so Imthinking that your little apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree!. . Got to sit with the prodigy now while she has an informal online getting to know you chat with 1 of the unis. She’s terrified.

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 13/01/2022 14:55

Thanks @singingstones and very well done to your Dd !

Alsoplayspiccolo · 13/01/2022 15:02

Super well done to your DD, singing! I know how hard DS is finding GCSE maths, so appreciate what a great achievement an A* 6 months early is Grin

icanbewhatiwant · 13/01/2022 15:13

@singingstones also congrats to your dd for her maths.

singingstones · 13/01/2022 15:26

Thank you everyone, DD is due home any minute so we are ready with our cheers.

Zebra I do love maths and help out the DC of a couple of friends and volunteer as a tutor too. DH did physics at uni and DS is doing maths A level so we are quite a mathsy bunch. Not so hot on humanities though Blush and I haven't passed on my list-making obsession skills, sadly. Hope your DD's chat goes well.

icanbe your DS must drive you mad at times but I must say that your updates always make me smile. I have visions of him finally telling you which uni he's going to as you're loading up his stuff to take him there ShockSmile

Wheresthebeach · 13/01/2022 15:45

Thanks @singingstones

Icanbe...I think that would send me over the edge...(control freak - moi?)

crazycrofter · 13/01/2022 15:51

Well done to your dd @singingstones! And to you for keeping track of everyone!

icanbewhatiwant · 13/01/2022 16:06

@singingstones yes I can imaging him doing that.

@Wheresthebeach I like everything to be just so. I like to know exactly what is happening, when and where etc. I like to be organised and write lists too. So yes ds2 always has driven me mad with his laid back attitude. But I think he will probably go exactly where he wants in life.

EwwSprouts · 13/01/2022 17:04

@singingstones Wow A*! Cake time.
