This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to posts about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this goodwill continues.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided, for anyone interested, they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

I agree about anxiety/menopause too. I think I'm through the worst now at 54 but a few years ago I was all over the place with anxiety, irritation, feelings of doom, lack of confidence. I hadn't had a period for 10 years due to the mirena coil so had no idea where I was in that respect. Didn't have hot flushes either so just didn't make the connection. I am still looking into HRT as there are a lot of long term benefits but there never seems to be a good time to make that appointment and speak to the GP.

DS's UCAS did go in yesterday, he has started getting acknowledgement emails.

ExquisitelyDecorated · 17/12/2021 08:56

Congrats on Sussex @icanbewhatiwant, s that's where he definitely wants to go that's great news.

Good news about L offer too @Zebracat

ZittiEBuoni · 17/12/2021 08:59

Just here to add my voice to 'anxiety is a perimenopause symptom' choir. I had absolutely atrocious health anxiety, right out of nowhere - didn't link it to peri as I didn't have any other symptoms other than the irregular periods. It was mumsnet - as so often - that saved my sanity by pointing it out in a menopause thread.

It's gone now, and was so much easier to deal with once I knew what was going on.

Dd2's carol service was beautiful last night but she was in tears afterwards - I think a combination of post-performance comedown and the thought that it might be the last hurrah for a while Sad. I feel for you as well NCTDN, I don't want either of us to see our dc like that again.

I'll cheer up now and say yay for the new offers coming in. What great Christmas presents!

Zebra Grin Well done to you and her.

Wheresthebeach · 17/12/2021 12:40

My Hotmail account is now posting an advert for 'L' at the top of my emails!

Yay! Brava!
Piggyinblankets · 17/12/2021 14:49

I am somewhat the opposite with the peri thing in that when I was really really really ill with Covid at first HCPs kept trying to tell me it was anxiety!

Now that I have had Covid, high BP, hot flushes , palpitations, night sweats, low iron : who knows why!?Either/ both...

My GP confidently opines that upset stomachs, nausea and hangovers after one glass of low alcohol wine is not a menopause thing.

Monkey2001 · 17/12/2021 16:06

@Piggyinblankets it wasn't our offer from L, but Zebra's

Monkey2001 · 17/12/2021 16:07

.... Sorry to hear you were so hard hit by Covid.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 17/12/2021 16:08

My GP confidently opines that upset stomachs, nausea and hangovers after one glass of low alcohol wine is not a menopause thing.. It is definitely a menopause thing! Soooo many people I know (including me) with the same symptoms. I now get a hangover while still drinking my first glass of wine! 😩

Piggywaspushed · 17/12/2021 16:13

I knew that monkey....it was delayed excited reaction....

Heifer · 17/12/2021 17:16

Shall we play Menopause Bingo :-)

Heifer · 17/12/2021 17:19

Rather than saying what I've got it wil be quicker to state what I haven't got!

3, 28, 35, 37 (not that I know), 38, 39

Anyone on for a full house?

Piggyinblankets · 17/12/2021 18:26

Oh my. Possibly...

ealingwestmum · 17/12/2021 18:33

Ooh, I don’t have 4. But, have learned that burning roof of mouth is one, I have this and never knew it was due to MP!

icanbewhatiwant · 17/12/2021 18:57

@Heifer I have at least 26 on that list. My tinnitus has gone mad. I didn't link think to menopause.

Ds2 has just announced almost all his friends have tested positive for covid. I think he had several in his car day before yesterday as they all went to the cinema 😟

Isthisjustnormal · 17/12/2021 19:17

D'you know what I'd totally forgotten that I learnt that tinnitus was linked the menopause. I guess I can add 17 to my list as well then ;-)

ealingwestmum · 17/12/2021 19:20

Oh gosh, never saw how many on the list. 36/40 then 😱

Monkey2001 · 17/12/2021 19:33

Oh no @icanbewhatiwant, you must now be wishing DH had not managed to fix car! It is ridiculously contagious, all the group from DH's office who went to the pub on Thursday not have it. My brother and SIL tested positive today, waiting for our Christmas day group (3 households) to be hit.

BlueMarigold · 17/12/2021 19:52

I think I have 3-4 symptoms on the list @Heifer. So this is the impending doom I have to look forward to 😂😂😂

icanbewhatiwant · 17/12/2021 20:08

@Monkey2001 no I was wrong. I asked if the covid cases were in ds's car. He grunted. I assumed yes. But he just confirmed no. But he can LFT each day anyway.

Oblomov21 · 17/12/2021 20:16

Heifer I have every single one of those 40 symptoms. Shock

ExquisitelyDecorated · 17/12/2021 20:25

I've got most of them too. I never realised about the tinnitus either. My hair and nails are still OK though. Bit worried about no 18 with the amount of coughing I've got going on ATM Blush
