This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

chap! Yeah, as someone who was rejected after interview by Oxford (bastards. But they were quite right!) having been in the space definitely made the rejection harder- I’d been philosophical up til then! I do wonder if remote interviews will help Ds be less invested, which can only be a good thing!

Head's still spinning! haven't spoken to DS yet as he's been trying to reach me on the phone which has been off. It was DH that reached me by email. It all happened around the time I was actually mining.

Commiserations to mummy. I wanted Birmingham but never got the BBB required.

Remember I told you I'd made a huge mistake re ds's application. I emailed and they said no, nothing could be done. I replied asking for it to be escalated. Today they said they'd reinstate his London application. Even if that comes to nothing, I feel better.

I also got a job offer today, after weeks of negotiating, 4 days for a salary I'm very pleased with.

Well done shimy. All these offers are so cool. I'm loving it.

@Oblomov Big congratulations on that job offer and for getting the salary you wanted , that is quite an achievement in this current climate and we do need all the dosh we can get to pay for these universities.

Great news @Oblomov21! Sorry about the rejection @mummyinbeds but I’m sure it’s better in the long run. My brother went to Oxford and had to work twice as hard as me! And Birmingham is a great place, although in a bit biased.

Dd had a little chat with me today,whilst sitting on the stairs (one of her favourite things to do).
She is so anxious about this UCAS stuff. It turns out now her reference has been done the whole form has to be 'double checked' then their policy is to upload (after this double check has happened...god above knows when) within 15 term days. So we could be looking at end of term before is even sent.

She has just been told they will have mocks Jan and before and after Easter (dates tbc she knew of Jan) expecting 3-4 interviews/auditions over this time, she suffers from anxiety anyway and now it is heightened as she feels she wont get a choice of dates to interview and there is bound to be clashes. She has taken it upon herself to email whoever needs it. It is just so rubbish for her.. They've been basically delaying her application stages all term. I know they have lots of students but the excuse 'we don't like to push the button and send batches off until at least December' seems nonsensical to me.

I'm trying to let her deal with it. She's really upset and worried about it all though. What to do? I know what I want to do.

Just came back to this thread to see all the offers that @crazycrofter seems to have influenced - congrats to all! I wonder if you rubbed off on DS too as he passed his driving test this afternoon!!! I am so excited about not having to pay for any more lessons or tests! Sadly I've just had to pay for the insurance.

@mummyinbeds sorry to hear your DS didn't get Oxford - maybe our boys will both end up at Brum!

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn if he ever see's a boy running into a lecture 10 minutes late, muttering away to himself in French that it wasn't his fault/he didn't hear his alarm/his mum didn't wake him up, then that's my boy 🤣

Orange, have you talked to dd about how you feel? What you want to do? If you explained .... bear with me.... what I want to do is..... but I want to do what you want.....

All our children are at varying different stages. How they cope and deal with everything is very different. Forcing things for some children is a disaster.

Having emailed no one school wise for nearly 3 years, I've recently emailed HoY to ask for early submission; Phoned re teacher concern / topic issue recently; Emailed twice re job application. I am still really pleased I did all 3.

Maybe have a chat over the weekend with dd?

Thanks so much @oblomov21 I will have a chat with her and use that strategy. I guess I just hate her feeling so anxious again...she really has been coping so well lately.
