Let's try this

DD's look to be over a complete month inc HT, most of her exams are 2 x 2.5 hours and the last exam 1.5 hours. Fortunately, they are probably falling just right (if they don't change)- her weakest area of one subject is the first exam which is two weeks before any other exam, her strongest subject expected A* is the last of the exams although it's content heavy Biology.

Just back from a weekend field course and comment was I dont want a career is ecology.

OKBobble · 09/06/2019 22:05

The provisional timetables can still be amendes but tend not to be. (CIE isn't out yet for A levels or Pre-Us).

DS's 3 essay subjects fall on consecutive days subject 1,2,3 week space 1,2,3 week space 1, 3 (no third paper for subject 2) starting 18 May ending 11 June 2020. Scary to see actual dates!!!

MillicentMartha · 09/06/2019 23:03

I’ve just looked up DS3’s provisional timetable. No clashes and only one exam per day. That’s including the 4 subjects when he’s only going to do 3. Starts 11th May, finishes 17th June.

I hope your DS’s timetable is equally accommodating Kingscote.

Numbersaremything · 10/06/2019 12:37

In a year it may all be over. It certainly puts 28 GCSE papers into perspective!

OP posts:
oneteen · 10/06/2019 16:07

DD was TOO quite laid back about GCSEs whereas A levels she is treating completely differently - I guess the stakes are higher and more apparent.

Seems odd that she was on her hands and knees in a wood yesterday looking at the chemistry and ecology of bluebells, tonight she is in a very smart suit for a business networking event. It's quite an intense HT very different from previous HT's when they tended to relax and enjoy a of summer events.

Numbersaremything · 10/06/2019 17:42

Suit? One of DD's friends turned up with hair in various shades of fischia this morning.

OP posts:
oneteen · 10/06/2019 18:17

I say suit it had a very tight pencil skirt but still looked very smart. DD's school don't tend to be too fussed about hair colour, they are not over keen in the nose piecing buts allow them. Sensationally they expelled nine Yr11's on the day they broke up for study leave for being drunk and in possession of 7 litres of Vodka!

Numbersaremything · 10/06/2019 19:25

Sounds very smart. No prom tickets for those year 12s then!

OP posts:
oneteen · 10/06/2019 20:40

Very good evening - DD buzzing with confidence which I suppose is why the school organize the evening. No Yr 12 for the nine girls - school policy following suspension - they can probably attend the prom though!

KingscoteStaff · 10/06/2019 21:01

DS home after a day of work experience - absolutely bouncing.

I have forced him to sit down and record everything he saw/learnt just in case he can squeeze it into his PS...

comefromaway - I told him to talk less, smile more!

oneteen · 10/06/2019 21:16

@kingscote - It's nice when they are bouncing - DD is the same tonight, she hadn't realized how confident she is and able to converse with adults- she really worked the room. All good news our teens are growing up!

OKBobble · 11/06/2019 08:23

Kingscote - what work experience is he doing?

LooseAtTheSeams · 11/06/2019 08:34

DS returned from first day back after study leave quite drained of energy but full of good intentions! We shall see... He is very enthusiastic about all of this term's topics, which is half the battle as when it's something he's less keen on he has a tendency to switch off!

KingscoteStaff · 11/06/2019 10:57

OKBobble he’s doing a couple of days with our MP’s office. Loving it.

OKBobble · 11/06/2019 11:25

That sounds good. Is he hoping to read Politics at uni?

Wintersnowdrop · 11/06/2019 11:35

Hello, I was on the earlier threads and have name changed since then as well. Will be interesting to catch up with how everyone’s dd and ds are getting on. My dd has taken one AS in History and has now dropped that. She wants to study English Lit at University.

Numbersaremything · 11/06/2019 12:26

Hi Winter. Where does she fancy going?

OP posts:
Wintersnowdrop · 11/06/2019 14:35

Hi, she wants to go to Durham but obviously that’s very competitive to get in and it’s a long way from where we live ( five hours by train or car😬) She did a summer residential at Kings college last summer and has been offered a place on a summer residential at Exeter this summer.

oneteen · 11/06/2019 19:59

Good luck to your DD with the Durham application, I know there were quite a few disgruntled mums on the Durham thread this year because of how late they had to wait to hear back and then sometimes the offers didn't seem to make sense. Someone on another forum advised to send UCAS application in a few days after the cut of date for Oxbridge applications if you are not applying to Oxbridge because then you are showing that its definitely your first choice (It's also the same advice that DD's school are advising for non-Oxbridge applications).

At least with all the stats online you can weigh up the chances of acceptance - DD's looking to go to Edinburgh and it looks like the acceptance rate is quite high at 83% for her course.

snozzlemaid · 11/06/2019 21:09

Hi all. May I join?
My dd is just coming to the end of year 12 and we're beginning touring open days.
We're in Cornwall so every one for us is a far distance away.
We did Exeter on the Saturday and dd liked it. However, she was already familiar with the campuses as she's just completed the Exeter scholars programme in medical sciences so already feels comfortable there.
She wants to do probably Biomedical Science or maybe Neuroscience.
She's mostly looking in the south as she doesn't want to be too much further away from home. She's quite a home bird.
We're off to Bristol on Saturday and then Bath the week after. Then we've got Southampton next month.
Some others have clashed so we'll probably do a couple more in September.

KingscoteStaff · 11/06/2019 21:45

Welcome snozzlemaid! Lucky you living in Cornwall.

DS is going to Bristol on Friday - school are happier to let him miss lessons than to miss the Saturday cricket match. Priorities, eh?

Peaseblossom22 · 11/06/2019 22:02

We are also off to Bristol on Saturday , we are on the opposite side of the country and by the time we booked only the early
Morning slots were available 😮

Doing York and Durham at the end of the month

Kilash · 12/06/2019 09:17

Hi Snozzlemaid and Winter.
DS starts his end of year exams next week adn the week after we have 2 open days in a week - Imperial and Birmingham. That's it then for the summer and only Nottingham and maybe Bath in September. I suspect we may not get to Bath but perhaps attend an offer holders day if he gets one. It's all quite time consuming!

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 12/06/2019 13:57

Some great info on here, DS has decided on Computer Science as his degree subject (preferably with a year in industry). He would like a campus uni and has ruled out all London unis, he has dropped further maths so this rules out a few other options.

We missed the Exeter open day as DP was ill and it is a 5 hour drive from where we live. Lots of mixed reviews on another forum about it but DS has looked at it online and said he will still consider it as a UCAS choice and maybe go to an offer holder day if there is one available and if they make him an offer.

We are off to Leeds on Saturday which was a last minute addition to his list.

He is sitting his internal exams at the moment so as soon as we get the results it will give him a slightly clearer view of realistic options.

Numbersaremything · 12/06/2019 16:51

Snozzle I have name changed, but your DD went to my old school and you would have recognised my old username as it was within a 5 mile radius of your own. I had similar issues when I was applying to uni. Warwick was the only open day I went to (6am start from the station to get there for 11) and I didn't dare look any further afield than the ones you mentioned. Don't feel you need to go to loads, focus on any she is particularly interested in and then they seem to do another batch for offer holders in the spring.
