Not DD is also waiting, waiting, waiting. I think it is worse than August 23rd last year!

Stickerrocks · 25/02/2019 11:37

Which subjects are you waiting for?

NotEnoughTime · 25/02/2019 11:42

Stickerrocks I have just PM'd you Smile

Whistl DS1 has applied for Eton USS. Wonder when we'll hear back about a place!? His school has an 'activities week' in the first week of July where all students go off somewhere - school trips or organised activities for the lower school and sixth form work experience/job shadowing (self-arranged) or work on EPQ/MOOCs in school etc. The Eton USS falls within this week so would be perfect timing for DS1. However, we're not expecting a place as it's so competitive so DS1 will be applying to local hospitals for job shadowing opportunities too.

Uni visits planned so far are
Leicester 3/4
Barts - 21/6

Trouble is DS1 works on Saturdays when most Open Days are held; I'm just wondering how many days of work he can get away with cancelling before he's fired!

sandybayley · 25/02/2019 12:01

@Oratory1 - you're probably right. York would be a good insurance.

I can't help thinking back to when Exeter was my insurance - CCC! How times have changed. DS1 won't hear that there may possibly have been some grade inflation. Edinburgh is as BBB and considered quite tough at the time.

Stickerrocks · 25/02/2019 12:04

I had to get EE for my first choice or ABB for my insurance. I wonder where I ended up!

bpisok · 25/02/2019 12:41

I think Birmingham and York gave out a lot of unconditional offers last year....I wonder if our year will be the same?

Oratory1 · 25/02/2019 12:53

True but the Birmingham unconditional are aimed at raising their academic standards so only offered to those with 6 a* at gcse and 3 A a level prediction and only unconditional if firmed so boo use as an insurance

Oratory1 · 25/02/2019 12:53

No not boo !!

TheFirstOHN · 25/02/2019 13:31

DS2 has mock exams this week (don't get me started on why they need to have mocks when the school isn't running any AS exams at the end of Y12).

He has three exams this week and the rest of the week is study leave where he doesn't need to be in school.

whistl · 25/02/2019 15:33

@Oratory1 yes, really 5 minimum. They don't all have to be on school days though, but they have to do them before the summer.

I haven't been through it yet, but I am guessing that the school encourages each student to have absolute clarity about what they are aiming for by the first day of year 13.

That way the school can group them together, as appropriate and optimise towards meeting their goals e.g.. prepare for MAT or STEP and get those applications and personal statements done and submitted in good time!

So just going to post a life update and then name change as this coupled with my Dad's health is definitely outing. He is being transferred to an acute residential rehab centre sometime today.

I got back Saturday and then we were burgled last night whilst sleeping - in fact phone tracker shows at 4am! My car was also stolen off my drive as car keys were downstairs. It has not been a good couple of weeks!

As I said I will now name change and hope you will recognise me!

TheFirstOHN · 25/02/2019 19:02

Somethingsmellsnice
What a shit week! Flowers

Stickerrocks · 25/02/2019 19:05

Something the seagull of life has shat on you from a great height. Sending Cake Wine Gin and more Cake.

242Mummy · 25/02/2019 19:36

Somethingsmellsnice My God, that sucks! Horrific that you were in the house while the burglary took place - thank goodness you and your family weren't hurt. How did they get in?

Poor you - this must be the worst over now. Things can only get better!

Kilash · 25/02/2019 19:38

Oh Something what a terrible couple of weeks Flowers. Hope things get easier soon.

Ds has had a rejection email from UNIQ. Not too surprised or disappointed as it was a long shot. His (state) school is a bit above average and in a nice leafy town and he has 2 Post Grad educated parents. Hope those of you waiting hear soon.

Stickerrocks · 25/02/2019 19:49

DD has got a place because of our postcode. In the past few months we have had a murder, numerous burglaries of a similar vein to Somethings, the local newsagent was held up at knifepoint earlier this month and our catchment school had a stabbing. I knew there was a good reason why we shouldn't move. I thought we would let her down with our qualifications though!

sandybayley · 25/02/2019 20:02

@Somethingsmellsnice - OMG that is a spectacular run of bad luck. You absolutely deserve a run of good luck now. It's coming, I can feel it in my bones and I just read it in my tea leaves.

sandybayley · 25/02/2019 20:05

@Stickerrocks - I love the seagull analogy. That's how it felt why our house sale fell through last week. Though in comparison to @Somethingsmellsnice it was probably a sparrow flying over 😉

PeggyIsInTheNarrative · 25/02/2019 20:21

Something Flowers

Stickerrocks · 25/02/2019 20:24

Sandy I'll let you have a pigeon, as it's poop must be bigger than a sparrows.

Stickerrocks · 25/02/2019 20:25

Its, not it's. Auto correct is driving me mad. I emailed someone about a lively lynch earlier rather a lovely lunch.

sandybayley · 25/02/2019 20:39

@Stickerrocks - I'll take your pigeon. DH has a pigeon phobia (honestly) so it feels apt for family Sandybayley on this occasion.

KingscoteStaff · 25/02/2019 21:18

That's absolutely rubbish Something (in whichever new disguise you choose). That's definitely bad things going in threes.

Sandy, I'll see your 8 Weetabix and raise you 4 bowls of yoghurt+museli+grapes+sliced banana+crumbledshortbread+anythingelsehecanfind

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 25/02/2019 21:27

Something Flowers and Cake. And maybe a stiff Gin to wash it down.

So sorry to hear that. It's shit. Same thing happened to my parents a few years ago. It's such a horrible feeling. Hope you are all ok.
