242Mummy I am guessing that they'll all have the same gill structure! evolution just isn't that fast!

whistl · 22/01/2019 15:20

As I get older, I'm struck by the number of times that I think to myself: "If I'd known that this was going to happen, then i wouldn't have worried about that".
That's all I want - someone to tell me what i need to worry about so I can relax about the rest!

I've just realised - I don;t trust teachers to tell the truth! their idea of "good" and mine are not the same thing. And their idea of "No need to worry yet" evolves into "They failed. Oh Well."

Today I am being extremely grown up & going to the BBC to watch Maxine Peake & Diane Morgan read a play. Time to expand my horizons.not just look up summer schools for DD.

Love Maxine Peake (the actress and the person). Enjoy !!

Are there any diet specialists here who can tell me what i am doing wrong?
I've been on a diet for two weeks, eating 800-1200 calories a day and drinking at least 2l of water every day. At first I lost 7lb, but now I've put back on 3lb of that.
How is this possible?

242Mummy · 22/01/2019 17:07

OMG whistl, are you me? I am also calorie counting, lost 5lbs and gained 3lbs over the weekend which now won't shift! No idea why as still careful with calories. Is it the moon?Hmm

TheFirstOHN · 22/01/2019 17:16

whistl and 242Mummy I am using an app called Libra after a recommendation from someone on another thread. It plots weight loss but smooths the curve so you can see the trend.

whistl · 22/01/2019 17:17

I'd like to know what happened to the much-anticipated water weight loss too! I thought i'd drop at least half a stone in the first week, but that hasn't worked out either.

whistl · 22/01/2019 17:19

I'm using myfitnesspal. I have to lie to to it that i've eaten more than I really have so it will predict my weight in 5 weeks time, as it says under 1000 calories is unsafe.
I just can't understand this - what exactly is my body running on?

Stickerrocks · 22/01/2019 22:12

If anyone fancies a good radio play, I heartily recommend The Bottle Factory Outingbon R4 on Saturday afternoon. Sue Johnston narrated with a heavy cold & Maxine & Diane giggled their way through it. Machine's mockney accent was brilliant.

Being brutal Whistl 1000-800 calories is too low. Your body has gone into panic mode. Try 1200-1500 per day for a steady 1-2lbs off each week. I live with the caloriescounting king who has lost 7 stone over the last year.

New phone. Outing on not Outingbon. Maxine not machine.

Hello my lovely old chums - I know there is a new GCSE thread but I love you all and you seem to be the fountain of all knowledge so.....
DD1 is now Year 12 and loving it (yay!! )and DD2 is Year 10. DD2 is doing Astronomy and Economics - my DC2 ploughs her own furrow choices wise - among her GCSEs and I cannot seem to find any study guides/online resources. Anyone know of anything as she has a scattergun approach to revision and I would like to make sure she isn't missing anything - Thank you all.

TheFirstOHN · 23/01/2019 14:50

JugglingMummyof2

If you know which exam board then go to their website and download the specifucation. This will have a list of what they need to know.

LimitIsUp · 23/01/2019 15:52

Great to hear of all the many and varied successes - keep up it up Class of 2018

Have your neighbours quietened down yet Sticker?

Good to hear that dgd's enjoying paring down to 3 A levels rather than 4 Sost

242Mummy - gorgeous and charming is at least as important in the world of employment as stellar qualifications imo Smile

Whistl - I've been doing the Michael Moseley 8 week blood sugar diet which is around 800 calories a day (I've probably averaged around 1000 calories a day) and lost 15lbs in three weeks. Its absolutely down to low carbs, no processed foods etc. Basically your body finds energy by using glycogen in the first instance - if there is hardly any of that available because you haven't been eating carbs then it has to use your stored fat. I also fast until 12 noon a couple of days per week because my body has got into the swing of burning fat overnight so might as well let that run on for a few hours (so effectively between 15-18 hours of fasting depending upon when evening meal was eaten). Its not as bad as it sounds - when fasting I normally don't start feeling hungry until 11am and then there is only an hour to go.

I have had no bread, rice, pasta, potatoes etc for 3 weeks. Plus carrots, peas and certain fruits like banana are off the menu. By following the recipes in his book, I am still easily managing my 5 a day and actually having very healthy meals. Sorry to sound evangelical about it Blush

LimitIsUp · 23/01/2019 16:00

Michael Moseley discusses VLCD (very low calorie diets) in his book and explains how and why they were discredited (mostly because of their association with faddy and unhealthy diets - cabbage soup, milkshakes etc) and he explains why the experts are not coming back around to them and how more rapid weight loss can be beneficial

whistl · 24/01/2019 16:16

The secondary school performance tables have been published (including last year's A levels)

TheFirstOHN · 24/01/2019 16:37

Good KS4 results for the school where I work:
1st in the county for Attainment 8
2nd in the county for Progress 8
(out of 148 secondary schools).

Oratory1 · 24/01/2019 16:40

Remember they don't include iGCSE s so any independent schools using those will have really distorted results.

Didn't think to look at A levels !! I'll have a look now.

whistl · 24/01/2019 18:46

I had a look at Ds1's old school GCSE results and position in the league table. 2nd in the county by Progress 8, and top 10 for attainment 8 .
It is weird (for me) to think that DS1 contributed to that score.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 24/01/2019 19:11

I’ve had a nosy. I’ve got my school to look at, the last school I worked at, my DS3’s old school and his current one! Quite a mixed bag. His current sixth form has a really good Progress 8 and also a great 16-18 progress figure. Happy here.

Kilash · 24/01/2019 19:21

In bed, incapacitated with flu for the past week Sad but up and about today and just as well it was this week as my new job starts Monday!

Lots of congrats to catch up on - particularly TheFirst ds - he had quite a long wait for his results. I hope he is super proud.

Just had a look at ds school - distinctly 'average' on all counts although still significantly above national and County average.

LooseAtTheSeams · 25/01/2019 09:12

Kilash good luck for Monday and hope you feel much better!

Stickerrocks · 25/01/2019 14:15

Hope all goes well Kilash.

The neighbours are still noisy, so DH's solution is to play annoying games on the Xbox to drown it out.

242Mummy · 25/01/2019 16:08

DC's school has been in the papers quite a bit this year (all good) so shall not comment as might 'out' myself! But very high on league tables and doing very well. No contextual points to be had here!

DS1 appointed to Senior Prefect board today which is a relief - he really wanted it and I think deep down, he expected it so if he hadn't got the position, I'd have had a lot of consoling to do!

Both DSs performing in a concert tomorrow evening with rehearsals from 3pm so DH and I are planning a nice meal out. To reminisce over times pre-children - to be honest, I can't really remember what we did in those early wedded days!
