Yes Sticker, sociology could be an option too. Particularly since if all else fails with a creative career (it shouldn't - she should be able to find a commercial outlet for her creative skills), she thinks she might join the police!

bpisok · 27/09/2018 13:13

@LimitIsUp - English as a dyslexic is clearly not as weird as we might think. DDs doing English Lit too. If anyone had told me that she would be doing it for A Level 10 years ago I would have laughed in their faces.....mind you, her teachers would have probably laughed too 😁

Stickerrocks · 27/09/2018 13:15

DD is thoroughly enjoying the English Language course so far. She wasn't interested in taking Lit, but is enjoying the analysis within the Language course.

LimitIsUp · 27/09/2018 13:17

Good for her bpisok - I guess there are wordsmiths like AA Gill who were dyslexic but made successful careers in English. SPAG isn't everything Grin

Stickerrocks · 27/09/2018 13:17

Relieved to see your response from the college has been positive. Waving at you from a few miles away!

LimitIsUp · 27/09/2018 13:18

Waving right back Smile

Yep, I think we've got our dc in a decent college there Sticker

Oratory1 · 27/09/2018 13:24

Adding into the mix my DS who uses literally no punctuation and spells phonetically but managed a stupidly high grade in English gcse (with the aid of a laptop)

Cherryburn · 27/09/2018 13:49

Impressively quick work from the college Limit and excellent news that she has options. Great that she addressed it so quickly.

Funnily enough at the last parents evening, DS’s English teacher said he should seriously consider doing it for A Level. I almost fell off my chair.

bpisok · 27/09/2018 13:53

So is anyone else changing courses or are we all settled now? It's surprising how many have changed their options since the end of last year. A large proportion of her year have changed or dropped one, but she's probably the most radical having gone from maths and sciences to all humanities but she's def enjoying it.

Product design sounds interesting. I can imagine being able to do something career wise with product design, art and psychology (understanding consumer purchasing decisions, planning the product, designing it and making it).

Just over 2 weeks and they are doing exams again. The summer holidays seem so long ago already.

PeggyIsInTheNarrative · 27/09/2018 13:58

I know I have posted this here not long ago but in case anyone missed this talk where Johnathan Mooney describes going from hiding in the toilets in school to avoid reading out loud in class, to becoming a writer here it is:

PeggyIsInTheNarrative · 27/09/2018 14:05

It is particularly relevant to the English Lit and dyslexia discussion. I'm not his agent Grin

ShalomJackie · 27/09/2018 14:49

Completely changing the subject but I have managed to secure Ed Sheeran tickets for next August!!!

Oratory1 · 27/09/2018 15:49

Vaguely linked to feel good clips and Ed Sheeran - did anyone see the clip in aibu of the crowd at the green day concert 2017 singing along to bohemian rhapsody. Very uplifting

bpisok · 27/09/2018 15:52

Jealous- I want to see Ed Sheeran. DD hates him and I don't know anyone else who would be interested either.

TheThirdOfHerName · 27/09/2018 16:33

As if he isn't already doing enough, DS2 has also volunteered to help run Classics Club at school.

He isn't even studying Latin or Classical Civilisation for A-level.

Stickerrocks · 27/09/2018 17:14

Another chum is changing from Eng Lit to Biology Limits and has a meeting to discuss it tomorrow!

Meanwhile DD left her history folder on the train and it was heading towards Leeds. We live on the south coast. Luckily another student from the college seems to have picked it up (after a mad dash to the station lost property office by me) and has made contact with DD. I love that student, I love that college, I have made my feelings abundantly clear to DD!

Stickerrocks · 27/09/2018 17:18

I saw Ed in the summer. That probably resulted in DD failing her further maths exam as she went to Wembly with me, had a panic attack and went into decline for the next few days. He was jolly good though & I did enjoy Jamie Lawson as support.

ShalomJackie · 27/09/2018 17:24

We saw Ed at Wembley too last summer and at the O2 the autumn before that and as he is "coming" home to Ipswich next summer and we are only just down the A14 it seems rude not to go!!

DH will come under sufferance unless I fibd someone else to come with me.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 27/09/2018 17:27

Shalom me too! I had three devices lined up ready at 9.55 this morning and got them within about 5 mins Grin

I am very popular tonight!

He's not really my thing. I'm more of an aging indie kid. Dd adores him so it remains to be seen if I will be her plus one or if new girlfriend is still on the scene by next August.

We're going to Leeds. Which one are you going to?

hmcAsWas · 27/09/2018 18:05

Wow close one with the history folder on the train! Glad the other student had the gumption to pick it up!

How funny that another student is switching from Eng lit to biology

hmcAsWas · 27/09/2018 18:06

Oops still logged in under old name on phone - must change that

Kilash · 27/09/2018 18:31

Looks like I missed the fun yesterday! (too busy on my day off from my pressured job enjoying a hobby Grin). Anyone who knows my d's would firmly assert you could not helicopter parent him if you tried- he is very much his own person!

Gosh sticker that other student was a star, what a relief.

DS never had any wobbles with his A levels but his degree choice appears to be up for grabs. He has wanted to do Maths with Stats for many years but now his Physics teacher is persuading him towards Physics. His Maths teacher is telling him he should do an accountancy internship, his Geog teacher is selling Geog! Perhaps the sooner he starts faster days the better!

LooseAtTheSeams · 27/09/2018 19:39

Stickerrocks phew!
Good news today - review result in and DS’s RE grade went up to a 7. It’s very much all in the past as far as he’s concerned but I’m pleased for him!
Lucky chap has an inset day tomorrow, too.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 27/09/2018 20:44

All these successful remark/reviews make me wonder if I should have looked into it!

DS3's degree choice is sticking with maths ATM with a PGCE afterwards. I still don't think he's got the personality to be a teacher but we'll see. He could teach computing maybe? If he doesn't drop computing. Or earn lots of money as a programmer, whether he does maths or computing. But probably not a chemistry degree as it would be tricky to teach science with only one science A level.

bpisok · 27/09/2018 20:57

@EllenJanesthickerknickers - he wants to be a teacher. Great role and he is to be really respected for it. Pretty much none of DDs friends want to be a teacher which is such a shame. To me it's the most important job in the country.....
