I am in desperate need of help. I have tried to do it on my own but I am running out of time. My SSW doesn't even understand the question I'm on now. It's 5.6 understanding contexts. I have only two weeks to finish it now and I really need to have a look at some examples of answers to the remaining questions so I have an idea of what is expected of me. If anyone can show me some examples or help in any way, I will be extremely thankful. I promise I won't copy your answers, I just need an example to get myself going.

If anyone could offer me some support on section 6 and 7 that would be very much appreciated, I have had support from my social work for the first few sections but unfortunately she has now left and I on my own and struggling. So anything would be a massive help. Thank you

6.1.a: a Know about legislation & national guidance relating to protecting & safeguarding children.

*The Children Act 1989
Section 47
?? Places a duty on the local authority to make enquiries where they have reasonable concern that a child in their area is or is likely to be suffering significant harm.
?? This gives social service the authority to intervene in family life.

Section 17
?? Local authorities have a duty to safeguard the welfare of children in need.
?? They must promote the upbringing of children by their families and must provide a wide range of services appropriate to the child??s needs. *

6.1.b Understand your local multi-agency safeguarding policies & procedures on identifying & protecting children & young people who have been abused or are at risk of abuse

*The Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) is the key statutory mechanism for agreeing how the relevant organisations in each local area will co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in that locality, and for ensuring the effectiveness of what they do. (Working Together to Safeguard Children, 2006).

The foster carer should discuss any concerns regarding protecting and safeguarding children to their SSW, or to the duty social worker, or if it is outside office hours, to the Emergency Duty Team

The fostering service??s responsibility is to ensure, that if there are grounds for concerns, they decide on the next course of action within one working day. If they decide that emergency action may be necessary to safeguard a child, they hold an immediate strategy discussion with police and other agencies as appropriate, to agree a plan for ensuring the child??s future safety and welfare.*

6.2,a Demonstrate that you understand what children & young people want & need to feel safe

we talk about night lights, having a baby monitor, choice of kid friendly foods especially in early days, looking at comfort objects (and removing them eg dummies)

6.2.b Be aware of what contributes to a safe environment for children & young people.

fire safety check; Carbon monoxide detectors, smoke alarms, cupboard locks, locked medicine cupboard, family policy

6.2.c Know how to help children & young people keep themselves safe from harm or abuse.

eg internet safety

6.2d Develop & maintain ??safer caring??guidelines for you & your household.

Family policy (eg private bedrooms, open doors policy, H&S for young kids (road safety, stranger danger etc)

FannyFanakapan · 15/09/2015 20:37

6.3a Understand the different ways in which children & young people can be harmed by adults, other children & young people including the internet.

Internet safety, bullying

6.3b Understand the different ways in which children & young people can be placed at risk, for example:
?? physical abuse
?? sexual abuse
?? emotional abuse
?? exposure to domestic abuse
?? neglect
?? faltering growth
?? institutional abuse
?? self-harm

Gave specifics about histories of the children in our care, how the abuse/neglect then presented itself in the childrens behaviours, and how we dealt with these behaviours

6.3c Understand signs & indicators of possible abuse & neglect.

Give specific behaviours

6.3d Understand how children might be bullied & know what action to take if you suspect a child or young person is being bullied.
Bullying can take several forms;
Physical, emotional, text/phone calls, internet messaging, intimidation, or discrimination. Council has an anti-bullying policy, most schools have a designated teacher.cChildren and YP can be put in touch with help lines counsellors or advocates. Booklets and information are available, Attending clubs such as scouts brownies builds a sense of belonging and resilience.

6.3e Understand the procedures you need to follow if you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, & the action you might need to take immediately.

You need to write ut what would happen in your CC,,,,in ours, I would contact SSW, childs SW, Emergency duty team, police or hospital, depending on situation

FannyFanakapan · 15/09/2015 20:45

6.4 a Know about your local Safeguarding Board & the responsibilities of your fostering service & other agencies in keeping children safe from harm.

*The LEA Children??s Safeguarding Board is made up of GPs, social workers, police carers, health visitor and education or other professionals involved with the child. It ensures that everyone knows what is happening.

*(then provided info on support from health visiting team)

6.4b Know who the designated child protection worker is at the school, pre-school group, club or other activity.

Gave names of teachers at school

c Be aware of the safeguarding policy of the school, pre-school group, club or other activity.

*name school safeguarding policy and include copy."

6.5 a Know when & how to refer a concern about child protection, the child??s welfare or any other instance of malpractice, negligence or unprofessional behaviour which might not be in the child??s best interests or pose a risk to the child.

discussed with SW, received X pamphlet, read up on BAAF

b Know how & to whom to report your concern about unsafe practice of others.

SSW, Childs SW, Team manager

c Know what to do if you have followed your own fostering service??s policies & procedures on reporting concerns, & you are not satisfied with the response.

*Team manager, ARea Manager, then I would seek more senior intervention or report it to IRO / fostering network / Children??s Guardian

I could also seek advice from other agencies e.g. NSPCC/ Child line/ Fostering network/ Police

d Identify what to do when you do not get a satisfactory response from other organisations or agencies.

SSW, CHildrens SW, IRO, Guardian

Hi Kahuna, I am a FC struggling with my CWDC, I noticed that you have kindly offered to help with a copy of your workbook. I will only use it for guidance but I really need help to get this finished. I have spent a lot of time with my son in hospital fighting leukaemia so obviously not concentrating on this work book. Now they want it in the next 2 weeks. Would be so grateful
This is my email. [email protected]

NannyG67 · 03/05/2016 10:35

Hi all, i am finding the TSD workbook questions very difficult to understand. I'm just not sure what it is asking me, it doesn't help because i'm dyslexic and i seem to of developed a mental block (i open up the document and panic, go blank and just stare at it lol). I have started to feel as if the questions are written in a language i don't understand. I was really hoping someone, anyone could help me at all? Any advice and or help would be greatly appreciated as my time to complete this has almost run out. Thank you so much x
