Let's all spare a thought for our fellow RAF/Navy/Army Wives, Husbands, mums and dads whose husbands, wives, sons or daughters won't be coming back from a war zone . I don't think there are any bereaved military families on MN, but I'm sure we all know some in RL.
Thank you

thoughts and best wishes to all, a priceless sacrifice by the ones that don't survive and the ones that do but have to live with the memories.

Saltire, according to the RAF I'm a war widow, since that cannot prove that Dh's death wasn't hastened by his service. While he didn't die in combat I do feel that getting 3 unrelated cancers in 16 years is very probably due to his exposure to chemicals in both gulf wars.

Watching the service this morning made me think again about all those fine people who have been lost in the service of our country

In memory and honour of all the fallen.

You will not be forgotten.

sunnygirl1412 · 09/11/2008 14:06

A great thread. Our servicemen and women, the civilian services, their families and the families of those who've given their lives are definitely in my mind and heart today.

MB, Mr MB was as much a hero, as all the fallen.

VanillaPumpkin · 09/11/2008 14:20

Echoed here at the Pumpkin household.

The dd's and I were able to watch DH in the Parade today as he was local to us. The Last Post nearly had me tears.
Remembering them all.

MB - I thought of you today in church .

saltire · 09/11/2008 14:22

MB - he did his bit for his country, he was still a hero.
Did you get my email, after you replied to my CAT?

No, confused emoticon needed

saltire · 09/11/2008 14:41

I sent you a CAT about something I wanted your advice on, from a teachers point of view. You replied with your email address, adn I replied to it. Wonder where it is then?

MB - I must admit that I posted about the Activity breaks in thought of your family, but wasn't sure where you stood in relations to the Forces. I knew that there was some connection, but wasn't sure what.

Blandmum · 09/11/2008 15:08

Blowed if I know!

can you send it again???

flossie64 · 09/11/2008 18:42

We must never forget.
We went to church this morning , it was very moving and I had tears in my eyes when the last post was played. I had lots of thoughts, not least of the nimrod crew,as it was at this time of year when all the funerals were held. My DH attended 6 in 8 days .
I remembered family aswell, my Grandad was in the 1st war ,my dad in the 2nd and Dh still serving.
Mostly you try not to think about what may happen , but today is a timely reminder of what happens all too often.
May they rest in peace ,with our everlasting gratitude.

Cathedral in Brussels packed for the service yesterday and loads of the brownies/cubs/scouts there - so we are teaching them to remember too. Lots of poppies being worn here too.

SmallShips · 10/11/2008 14:27

Went to a lovely service yesterday, done by our local Sea and Army cadets, big turnout despite awful weather, which was good to see.

Remember the minute silence tomorrow!

hf128219 · 10/11/2008 20:40

How lovely to hear about all the services - done by young and old. My dh was on parade yesterday and laid a wreath.

thumbwitch · 10/11/2008 21:20

Managed to get to the parade my Dad organised - every year now he says it will be his last and then he does it again. Good turnout, lots of Scouts, BB, junior St.John's plus local CCF and Horse Rangers Band. More wreaths laid than ever this year and amazingly the weather held for us (he seems to "manage" that every year now!).

I just wish I had confidence that when Dad finally stops organising it that someone else would take over, but I don't think that will happen.

I spoke to my father yesterday. He lives in Yorkshire, but not part that is full of forces. However, he said that church was packed and there were various random forces personnel - including Americans from Menwith Hill. I think the perception is changing out there - it is no longer just about commemorating those who died a long time ago in WWI or WWII, but wlso those who are directly affected today.

Despite having forces connections, I don't have any direct knowledge of bereavements, but speaking recently to a serving RN officer who is closely involved with the marines, I was almost in tears. Still can't stop thinking about the number of lives that have been shattered.

Not sure where I am going on this...
