Let's all spare a thought for our fellow RAF/Navy/Army Wives, Husbands, mums and dads whose husbands, wives, sons or daughters won't be coming back from a war zone . I don't think there are any bereaved military families on MN, but I'm sure we all know some in RL.
Thank you

Nice thread, saltire. Not enough people associate Remembrance Day with today's troops, instead thinking it is just about WWI and WWII.

StubbleOnChin · 08/11/2008 23:08

was talking to DP about this. and generally it seems to be a focus day, why don't the general public think about it all year. regardless of wether you are associated or not.

scotlass · 08/11/2008 23:09

saltire, I was thinking the same thing. Just watched the festival of rememberance and it makes you so grateful when your LO comes back to you from a tour.

Thoughts to all those who have lost a LO whilst serving this country of ours and R.I.P to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

hf128219 · 08/11/2008 23:15

Thoughts very much echoed. I seem to think a lot more people are wearing poppies this year.

Keeping them in our hearts and minds

thumbwitch · 08/11/2008 23:23

Agree entirely. And spare a thought for those who have had need of Headley Court as well - still alive but badly injured.

ScottishMummy · 08/11/2008 23:32

yes DMRC does some amazing work

cba · 08/11/2008 23:43

dont have dh in services. I totally agree with you all and I have just stated teaching my two boys age 8 and 6 about the bravery of the men and ladies in our forces and the workd they do not just for us but for the world. I also take them to the war memorial in our village and read the names and talk about what happened to them and why they died.

Just to let you know that all the men and ladies past and present are appreciated for the truly brave work they do!

Shoshe · 09/11/2008 06:37

For all the Heroes, we will remember them.

saltire · 09/11/2008 09:20

I was moved almost to tears last night watching the War Widows take their place at the Festival of Remembrance.
That's what made me want to start this thread, also let's not forget those injured, many of them badly.
I watched a programe on BBC4, and it showed a man from WW1 whose face had been almost blown off and it showed the amazing work doen back in 1918-1923 getiting it rebuilt

sadly nobody seems to mention the merchant navy.

poshtottie - sorry for my ignorance, but I always assumed that the Merchyant Navy was a branch of the RN, like the Royal Marines are.

With DH away (submariner), Remembrance Sunday seems very poignant to me today.

Agree- having a dh in the forces has made me far more aware of the whole Remembrance Day thing, and the realities of modern-day war, not just the mud-and-trenches images of WW1. I think it's important to remember not just those who are killed, but the hundreds that we don't hear about on the news who are horrifically injured, and whose lives are irrevocably altered

saltire · 09/11/2008 10:42

for all of them, whatever conflict they gave their lives in

What a lovely thread.
Dh is away at the mo (surprise surprise) and we made a poppy wreath in Sunday School today.

A new generation now remembers.

Shoshe · 09/11/2008 13:48

Eldest DB was in the Nimrod.
