Yep 4 more years and its over, will be quite sad really and wondering what civvie street will be like

VanillaPumpkin · 25/03/2008 20:21

Yes. I hope you don't get bored.....
I have itchy feet now after two years and I never thought I would be one to enjoy moving around but part of me finds it quite exciting. This move will be harder though as I have more civvie friends who won't have left before me, unlike before, where I always seem to be the last to go and never get a leaving do .

shoshe · 25/03/2008 20:36

I know most have my frinds have moved on in my time here, still I will be the one to go EVENTUALLY

Where are you, which service? (I'm terrible at remembering)

VanillaPumpkin · 26/03/2008 07:46

DH is RAF. We are in the West Midlands at a training unit that is full of PTI's .
Actually it is a good place to be. There are certainly a lot worse slots for us out there. I had just hoped for a bit closer to my parents having been overseas but we are still a min of 4 hrs from them really.

saltire · 26/03/2008 07:50

McDreamy - it's horrible isn't it. I ahte this house, I must say though, every RAF quarter I ahve lived on in the past 15 years ahve been great, but these ones are dire. If this is how the Navy treats their families who have DH/DPs away for so long, well I'm surprised they have any married couples living together.

shoshe · 26/03/2008 07:56

VP, my brother is at Waddington on the Nimrods.

VanillaPumpkin · 26/03/2008 08:00

Oh DH had his first posting there. He loved it! We are the other side of the country now.

shoshe · 26/03/2008 08:03

We were at Cranwell as a kid, but spent most of our time in the Far East 2 tours of HK and 3 of Singapore as well as Aden Jordon and Oman., The only other Home postings we lived on Army Camps, hence marrying one (well 2)

VanillaPumpkin · 26/03/2008 08:16

Lol at marrying 1 (well 2).
Exciting childhood! Things have changed haven't they. The unit I am at is supposed to be moving to St Athan, apart from DH's place of work that should be moving to Cranwell. I will beleive it when I see it . No-one stays in a job long enough to see anything through

Notyummy · 26/03/2008 08:18

vanilla, I guess you mean Cosford? I spent my first 2 years in the RAF there, trying to keep loads of trainee engineers in line...and occasionaly failing and so having to attend punishment parades

I remember the circuit sessions there being fiendishly complicated because the trainee PTIs who ran them were being assessed and wanted to prove that they could come up with 'innovative' ways of doing it. This inevitably meant that everyone would forget were they were supposed to moving to and just ran in to each other...

VanillaPumpkin · 26/03/2008 09:26

Notyummy - I don't think much has changed. When were you here? I wonder if my DH was one of those confusing trainee PTI's

Notyummy · 26/03/2008 09:50

1998 - 2000

Have a lot of good memories!

VanillaPumpkin · 26/03/2008 16:00

Oh no way after his time. Possibly a good thing

cheshirekitty · 29/03/2008 21:11

Hubby is retired from the RAF, but I can give you some hints.

If a cupboard door has fallen and hit you on the head, go to DHE and ask for an IR1 (incident form) be filled in.

Tell DHE you have taken a swab from manky carpet/floor etc and will send it to the lab for analysis. Tell them is there is anything manky on analysis you will sue.

It makes me laugh (and mad) that the general public believe that married quarters are free. Wish you got some of the allowances members of parliament (blood sucking leeches) give themselves.

There thats me coming off my soapbox.

McDreamy · 30/03/2008 16:54

Thanks Cheshire Kitty

I didn't know about such forms, I might pop in tomorrow and do that. Have been trying to persuade them that my blocked and leaking toilet deserved a call out today! It's disgusting but thankfully sorted now!!

McDreamy · 03/04/2008 14:36

Hi mousemate we're at Akrotiri!! Where are you moving to? I live in one of the nice houses

MouseMate · 03/04/2008 14:46

Oh my lord! We are going to Dhekelia. Are you RAF then? I thought RAF accn was supposed to be really good, well I know the singlies accn is

I know there is a new build estate that is supposed to be good, but has heating/charges problems. I've starting all the form filling today and I'm slowly losing the will to live........

kerryk · 03/04/2008 14:49

my new carpet is down [smug][smug][smug]

all i need now is new doors and the downstairs of my house will look pretty damn good.

McDreamy · 03/04/2008 16:04

Mouse mate you will be fine. I am sure you will get a really nice house. Cockroaches are part of the course out here! I was having a bad day and had a sore head!!!

We've had a great time in Cyprus and if you have children you will all have a lovely time. When do you arrive? If you have any questions about life out here ask away. I don't know Dhekalia well but I can answer general questions.

Hey all.

Well McDreamy, my posting has been changed - not badly, just this will be the 4th posting order I have had in a month! We are now going to Episkopi in Jul. I think that is closer to Akrotiri isn't it?

I have 2 dd(3) and dsd(12). The current plan for DSD is for me to check out the schools before her mum decides if she is coming with us or not, and so far I have heard good things so fingers crossed (I really want her to come). My dd will just be happy with being able to play outdoors most of the year without me dragging her back inside because of the rain!

McDreamy · 04/04/2008 15:16

Yes Epi is just up the road. I go up there quite a lot. The schools here are fab. Is your DSD at secondary school age at 12? She will be going to St Johns. Parents are divided into 2 here about the secondary school, they either really like St Johns or they send their children to a private school in the UK , wouldn't be my choice.

Let me know if I can help at all
