Is someone winding me up?

Okay - so a friend told me the other night that there is a course for future CO's wives to go on to learn how to be a CO's wife whatever that means Wink

I thought this sounded very strange so asked whether it's the type of thing about etiqette (how to say hello to the queen or whatever).

She said CO's wives should already know that anyway! I thought perhaps she's winding me up but she insisted that some of her friends are going on the course - some to have a giggle but others because they felt they should take it seriously.

So it right and if so, where's the course and what do they teach you exactly?

As an army wife who lives away from her hubby from time to time, away from the regiment and all things army.....I think Id probably be the perfect candidate for a COs wife course! I am far removed from the do's and dont's of army life, let alone what is expected of the COs wife. We own a house and me and the children live there, hubby may weekly commute, living in the mess Monday - Thursday and is home Friday, or if posted locally will be home every night.
Im very much 'take me as you find me'. I dont want to fit the stereoptypical/traditional CO wife image. I am young, (relatively) fashionable.....loose lipped (after a few G&Ts) but can but want to embrace being a COs wife when the time comes and be responsible in the role.
Years ago I laughed at the COs wives who seemed to take the rank of CO when their husbands were promoted, now hubby is reaching that rank I seem to want to take the rank too.
Maybe Id be the perfect person for tweeking...

mlrmummy - you sound a lot like me - not knowing the do's and don't's etc......but actually perhaps I know what they are - just don't always put them into practice or purposefully ignore them Wink

Maybe we should devise a new tri force one - for the modern day COs wife Grin

I'm not sure I want to be tweaked; I like the quirky me.

But I'm the sort of person who insisted on calling the colonel by his first name (I'm not in the army type thing) Wink

Sorry vintage but in my experience wives always call Colonels by their first names. My husband would have thought it strange to be called anything else!!!

vintageteacups · 17/06/2011 20:42

Yes I know but some wives do call the CO 'colonel'.

All a bit Hmm for my liking but I too think it would be weird not to call them by their first name.
