Okay - so let's imagine that we're posted to the same place as one of the 'royal' officers (ifkwim)

Give me your ideas for funny one-liners on meeting them on camp Grin.

For example, DS would probably say:
"would you like to come to our house for tea - mummy will make toad in the hole and we've got a cushion with a crown on it for you to sit on"

whereas I might say (whilst running my hands through my hair and trying to look my best)

"OMG I'm can't believe it's really you" or some other embarrassing thing like that.

thanks mrssnap, it looks like vintage and i will be living on same patch from January so will miss pregnancy but will know someone whilst off on maternity Smile

Great news L-K - I think you'll really enjoy living there. Last time we were there, there was a good book club.....now it's called wine club!

Just gotta make sure now that I don't do anymore volunteering for anything or DH will be cross!

Mrssnaplegs - how is maternity leave going? Done up that caravan yet?

lk- you know there are two patches - one with more room than the other. Let's just say, there's less room where I'm going so you gotta get your DP (soon to be DH) to fight for whichever you want! It's a bit [panic] sometimes I think and people have to make do with the patch that's 8 miles away.

Oh I would probably start on about how lucky they are not to live in a quarter and have to put up with Modern housing problems Solutions and DE.
Then I'd ask if either was being stiffed for doing prison guard duty, and if when the fire brigade strike would they prefer to do that. then look all amazed when they say "No"

I met the older one when he was a student at St A's. In fact I nearly knocked him off his feet going into a shop, and DH often ahd to help out with things

oooh rubbish, I didnt know that vintage (I am mostly naive in the ways of all things army). I will get him on the case, he's not known for his fighting skills so I'll prime him - thanks

LK - the poatch 8 miles away is in a lovely town though with all local services - it's just annnoying you have to have a duty driver (sometimes there'll be a minibus laid on) for mess do's.

Houses are much newer but mixed patch with officers and soldiers MQs being together (not that I'm sayign tnat's bad - just different), whereas, where I'll be, officers are behind the wire and soldiers just off camp. It's lovely have such a lovely big space on camp and I always feel more secure being behind the wire but then, I'm a bit wussy Grin.

Both patches have good local schools/preschools/nurseries so no probs there.

PM his rank nearer the time and I can advice you (coz I'll be there in Aug) any house numbers coming up or empty and you can put that on your housing pref list.

I expected they'd do rather well with a quarter, given that his uncle-by-marriage is head of DES.
