House Move tomorrow

MrsSnaplegs · 26/10/2010 18:18

Well we have finally (after 6 months) been allocated a 1/4 (last Wednesday) and the movers arrive tomorrow to pack us up [shick]. UK move so fairly simple Hmm but I need to check we have covered most/all bases. I am sure we will have forgotten something as it has been such a quick turnaround this time.

Sky TV/phone/broadband - done and dates booked for fitting - will cancel BT here once we get down there.

Car insurance and registration documents
TV license
School - old one know Dd is leaving and all school friends have got her email, new one know she is arriving and when and we are booked for a visit on Monday
Have found local Dr, dentist and vet although not registered yet

Oil heating here so nothing to cancel

Booked milk delivery there - yet to cancel milk here

Electricity - can't do till march out here, same company for down there

Newspapers - need to cancel these and pay bill

Bank - need to change address on accounts and house insurance

Mail redirection - need to book

Garden - sorted and tidy,
Attic cleared and decluttered
Most rooms ready for packers - just our bedroom to do later.
Overnight (3 day bag) packed for DD - need to do DH and myself

Freezers - need to clear and defrost

window cleaner booked for day before march out

Need to book house clean for march out (not doing it myself this time as 7 months pregnant)

Need to book march out but not rushing as they have only given us 1 weeks notice to move into new house which had been empty for over 4 weeks before the previous tenants marched out Hmm also because of the short notice move won't get DA until and of Nov pay Hmm so will have to fund everything out of own pocket until then.

So what have I forgotten?

Do you think as well as an overnight bag I should pack a hospital bag? I am 35 1/2 weeks. My logic is no because I have an overnight bag with wash kit etc in it and if LO does arrive in next 3 days any baby stuff we have is going to be too big anyway and we have loads of friends on patch here who have recently had LO so could borrow in an emergency or go out and buy new. So am I tempting fate not to pack a hospital bag Grin Not my first baby and DD was a week late, I am due 6 Dec but think I will end up going over by at least a week this time.

Blimey snaplegs that little lot might send you into early labour Grin!

Can't thinhk of anything you've forgotten except changes of addresses for child benefit, child tax,car insurance, contents insurance.

MrsSnaplegs · 26/10/2010 19:20

Do I need to change address for CB?

We have never claimed CTC even though we are entitled - it is far too much hassle and I have heard so many scare stories of people being told they owe thousands because the CTC people have messed up. When DC2 comes along DH wants to go back to Uni FT so we may claim then as he will be entitled as a student to a lot more support - my plan is to support him through Uni to "retrain" him and I should then have done my 22 - about time to retire maybe (although I can go now if I want) I can then be SAHM with a little job on the side when kids at school and he can go back out to work Grin

I will do contents insurance tomorrow when I do the bank

Car - DH has done insurance and V5

Oooh need to do driving licences - see I knew there would be something Wink A second brain always helps!

MrsSnaplegs · 26/10/2010 19:21

Only thing I am really worried about is emergency childcare if I go into labour early before we have found someone down there to have DD - we do have friends in Aldershot who would come down but they are having a house party on Friday so would be worst day for early labour!

OP posts:
Ghoulfriend · 26/10/2010 19:21

Yes you do need to do CB but I think you can do it on line. Where are you off to?

luciemule · 26/10/2010 20:05

snaplegs - you could ring ssafa (sp?) and tell them you're iminent and if it came to it, they would send someone to look after DD if you go into labour.

MrsSnaplegs · 26/10/2010 22:16

Gosport area
I have an npfs worker I could call and there is defence med welfare based at the hospital
Never changed address with cb before - oops!

OP posts:
luciemule · 26/10/2010 23:16

snaplegs - don't forget to change your address for the electoral role as well. I was prevented from having a bank account earlier this year as they didn't have me on the role for a year of my life (illegal apparently). I only thought you had to be on it if you voted but apparently not. You can be prosecuted by not being on it.

MrsSnaplegs · 27/10/2010 06:59

thanks luciemule - well we have all been awake for ages, hopefully there will be less daddy long legs down there so I won't get woken to get them out of DD bedroom at 5 am!

DH has been to his last patch coffee morning, presents for all of us it was lovely - thanks to "the godmother" if you are on here! His card even had the comment in saying what a great mum DH is! DD now on a playdate, DH sorting garage and supervising packers and I'm on my way to headley ct for a review! Nice to be out of madhouse for a couple of hours!

OP posts:
luciemule · 27/10/2010 14:22

Hope the move goes well snaplegs and you don't go into premature labour just yet ;)

scaryteacher · 28/10/2010 07:34

Enjoy the move - I'll be in your new vicinity next week, staying with db whilst visiting the pils.

MrsSnaplegs · 28/10/2010 08:23

Well day 2 starts DH already in garage getting it ready , neighbour en route to take what she wants from freezer, no logic to the way the movers have packed they seem to have done half of every room?! Only 2 guys packing as supposedly that's all you get on the new agility contract! No signs of labour yet thankfully!!
Scary - I would say pop in for a coffee but the kettle has just blown up!

Chulita · 28/10/2010 09:37

Good luck! I can't get my head around movers' 'logic', hope they pack up quickly for you.

luciemule · 28/10/2010 10:23

I'm still bitter from the time one removal guy told me the cup of tea I made him tasted like cat piss and through it out the lounge window!

Chulita · 28/10/2010 11:31

Shock you should have said 'cat piss? I wouldn't think that likely with 2 dogs'

MrsSnaplegs · 28/10/2010 12:35

Supposedly the chap who came to do the estimate has massively under estimated - he put us down for 4 boxes for the kitchen Mmm maybe try 14!

OP posts:
Chulita · 28/10/2010 12:44

Ack! we had that when we moved last month - estimator said we were well within our allowance, they sent a small lorry round and packed it. As they were running out of space towards the end they said 'hmm, we'll have to leave your pot plants behind cos they won't fit'. They did fit in as it happened but DH was ready to tell them to go and get a bigger lorry and re-pack!

scaryteacher · 28/10/2010 13:00

When we moved here from Cornwall we told them the lorry wouldn't fit into the village so they had to get a van and move everything up to where the lorry was parked.

We also told them that they wouldn't get a lorry up the drive here, and they ignored us. They had to bring everything up on a porters 'trolley' (two wheeled job) up a gravel drive. They were not happy!

MrsSnaplegs · 28/10/2010 16:07

I don't think any of the men in the house when I just popped a balloon (my DD's) and said " ooh my waters!" well we needed a bit of light humour! Stop cock for washing machine broke so we nearly flooded the kitchen and we are currently heating hot water in

OP posts:
MrsSnaplegs · 28/10/2010 16:09

Sorry should read any of the men were impressed!

OP posts:
hf128219 · 28/10/2010 16:10

Drain your washing machine?

MrsSnaplegs · 28/10/2010 17:22

Sorry weird post - we were heating water in the microwave as I wasn't going out to get a new kettle now! The water wasn't coming from the machine it was coming from the mains feeder pipe and we couldn't switch it off as the valve was broken!!

OP posts:
MrsSnaplegs · 29/10/2010 18:46

Wow tired is not the word! Been up since 6 and at the house unloading since 0730! I have had to stop as I am completely pooped! DH putting DD bed together then that is it for today. Baby now doing somersaults after all the work today - hope we don't have an early arrival as I have no idea where baby stuff is Grin
