What's your "peasant fodder"

Aragon · 01/08/2005 19:36

By peasant fodder I mean the stuff that takes very little in the way of preparation and is yummy. It should also lack a certain finesse.

I've just had mine and it's grated cheese and egg salad with mash potato served with generous amounts of salad cream. Mash potato and salad cream - (Homer Simpson like Mmmmmmmmmmmm!)

WigWamBam · 01/08/2005 19:43

Mashed potato with lots of salt and butter, smothered in baked beans.

Or a mashed potato and tomato sauce sandwich if I'm really being peasantish.

lamb shanks with mixed beans, tinned toms, carrots and onions, thrown in the slow cooker in the morning and dished up about 8 hrs later with mash potaotes

spursmum · 01/08/2005 19:46

Tinned ham, mash, spaghetti hoops and pickled onions!! I'm sooo common

anchovies · 01/08/2005 19:47

fishfinger sarnies and cheesy mash are my two faves

desperatehousewife · 01/08/2005 19:50

melted cheese on pitta bread with lime pickle - utterly mad for it. Could live on it. Infact pretty much do.

spursmum · 01/08/2005 19:51

Did anyone else eat mash sarnies? Thick sliced bread, lots of butter, nice healthy dollop of steaming hot mashed potato!!! Beginning to think I am a peasant!!

Distel · 01/08/2005 19:57

Toad in the hole
sausage rissoto
sausage casserole
fish fingers and cheesey mash
Corned beef hash

Aragon · 01/08/2005 19:58

Hubby does mash sarnies - even better when he adds fish fingers and some "dead horse" (tomato sauce) to the mixture.

I mustn't forget toasted ham sarnies. Hot toast dripping with butter with couple of slices of cold ham wedged in. Can you tell that i don't do diets?!!!

happymerryberries · 01/08/2005 20:14

Fried egg and real chips! With tomato sauce!

Cheese on toast with branston pickle!

spursmum · 01/08/2005 20:17

chicagomum · 01/08/2005 20:19

skerriesmum · 01/08/2005 20:19

Beans on toast with a bit of grated cheese on top. Macaroni and cheese out of a box (this is North American, can't get it here.)
Fish finger sandwiches.

expatinscotland · 01/08/2005 20:21

Stovies! Tatties, sausages and onion w/low salt gravy.

Or jacket tatties w/bean and cheese

spursmum · 01/08/2005 20:25

Should be asking swiper as she took her dd to the reading game(2-0 to the spurs!)
Have come to the conclusion that I am a peasant!!!

spidermama · 01/08/2005 20:25

Sotvies Expat! Michty Me! I hinna heard ay them in years.
Brings back memories. I used to love them.

I don't eat meat now but have similar to WWB and Trefusus. Veg matter cooked and mashed to bits with potatoes and cheese. Probably olive oil or butter as well, if I'm honest.

Aragon · 01/08/2005 20:26

Sausage, mash and baked beans is another goodie. If I'm feeling really energetic then I do fried onions on the side - "fried" onions not the pncy "pan-fried" onions.
