What can I do with my mushy bananas?

helyg · 27/04/2010 21:26

I have 2 rapidly becoming browner bananas on my worktop. I am loathe to throw them away, and so would like ideas to use them up!

I have made banana bread twice in the past 10 days so doen't really want to make that again. Nobody in the house is a big fan of smoothies.

Any suggestions?

If you mash them you can freeze the mash to cook with later. I read that somewhere, haven't done it though.

SoupDragon · 27/04/2010 21:27

I freeze them and then use them to bake with later.

SoupDragon · 27/04/2010 21:28

Or you can eat them frozen and they're rather like banana icecream.

Quick banana ice-cream - never trie dit, but it sounds nice : here

TheProvincialLady · 27/04/2010 21:29

I posted a recipe for banana ice cream a while ago, which is what I make if I have squishy bananas and don't fancy making cake. With all these banana based recipes, the browner and more disgusting looking the fruit, the tastier the results - so unless there is mould, there is no hurry IMHO

banana milkshake, rather than smoothie?

Fried with brown sugar and brandy and used in pancakes with whipped cream?

TheProvincialLady · 27/04/2010 21:30

Excuse me Habbibu, but I think you'll find mine is nicer...

Banana splits with ice cream

Banana cake? (instead of bread)

Brandy bananas

slit them, add pieces of left over easter chocs, wrap in tin foil & bake (memories of guide camp here - choc bananas on the campfire)

Milliways · 27/04/2010 21:33

loads of ideas here

JackBauer · 27/04/2010 21:35

Bauer's banana cereal bars, of course here (i hope, first attempt at link from phone...)

Habbibu · 27/04/2010 21:36

begging your pardon, milady! It was just that nice Mr James was so persuasive...

helyg · 27/04/2010 21:37

Nom nom nom thanks, so many ideas so quickly!

Will have a look at them now and decided what to make in the morning

bums. Well they are under lunchbox recipes in recipe section [sulks]

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 27/04/2010 21:44

Have made the James instant banana ice cream many times and it's yummy. We only need half the amount of sugar recommended.

dinkystinky · 27/04/2010 21:45

Banana muffins. yum.

Habbibu · 27/04/2010 21:48

watch it, extremelychocolaty. Provincial Lady will be most affronted.

Montifer · 27/04/2010 21:48

For minimum effort:

toasted banana and cinnamon or banana and peanut butter sandwiches

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 27/04/2010 21:49

What's Provincial Lady's recipe?

TheProvincialLady · 27/04/2010 22:03

Yeah, and I'm Dead Hard (being a lady and that).

This is my recipe. It says vegan because I use soya custard for my dairy intolerant DS, but you could use any custard.

Or some other bastard's recipe, I suppose.

MmeBlueberry · 27/04/2010 22:04

Banana bread

countrybump · 27/04/2010 22:47

Banana bread and butter pudding. You'll find the recipe on 'I can cook' page on cbeebies website, think they call it 'spicey pud' or similar.

I'm not ashamed to refer to Katie's expertise almost as often as I refer to Delia!

Amapoleon · 27/04/2010 22:49

Fried in butter and sugar, naughty but nice

KnottyLocks · 27/04/2010 23:16

Banana sandwiches with a sprinkle of brown sugar. Must be real butter.

A taste of childhood

KnottyLocks · 27/04/2010 23:19

Banana fritters.
Fry banana in butter, add pancake mix.

Gorgeous.

Even better with a dollop of icecream.

GrimmaTheNome · 27/04/2010 23:20

banana and choc chip muffins. yum and you can make really healthy ones with half wholemeal flour, not much oil and no extra sugar if your bananas are sufficiently overripe.
