I'm not trying to find out if you get your five a day. I'm just bored and nosy.

I'm glad I'm not alone in not being much of a fruit fan.

Bored and nosey if fine by me. Sounds like the kind of mood I'm in too.

Fresh regulars are:

Bananas
Grapes
Potato
Brocolli
Carrots
Cherry Toms
Red Pepper
Onions
Celery
Apples
Pears

Frozen regulars are:

Peas
French beans
mini corn on the cob

These are just the regulars, usually have some other oddments hanging around.

MrsJohnDeere · 16/04/2010 16:05

Regularly bought:
bananas
strawberries (even crappy flavourless out of season ones because it is the one fruit ds1 will eat lots of)
pears
apples
oranges
lychees
mangoes
pineapples

broccoli
spinach
spring onions
potatoes
frozen peas
lettuce
cabbage
courgettes
leeks
carrots
peppers
tomatoes
fennel

I'm quite obsessive about only buying things that are from the UK and in season if at all possible.

Other things are eaten now and again. The only veg I never buy are butternut squash and sweet potatoes because none of us like them. Onions very rarely too - dh hates them, and I'm not keen.

displayuntilbestbefore · 16/04/2010 16:13

Here it feels like every week we get through the entire contents of a greengrocer's shop!
Every week we eat
3 pack onions
2 bags potatoes
bag of carrots
a cabbage
dozen tomatoes
3 cucumbers
1 or 2 swedes
3 packets beetroot

2 bags apples
10 bananas
bag pears
bag clementines
2 boxes grapes
3 packs blueberries
2 or 3 lemons

broccoli
cauliflower
sprouts
raspberries

3 bags sultanas, 3 bags raisins, 3 bags currants (I make a lot of fruit bread) dozen mini boxes raisins
3 bags dried apricots

We're regular as clockwork

LetThereBeRock · 16/04/2010 16:35

I forgot young spinach which I buy reguarly and use steamed or in salads.

OP posts:
LetThereBeRock · 16/04/2010 16:35

My list still seems very inadequate when compared to many of the others.

OP posts:
Bumperliouzzzzzz · 16/04/2010 16:42

I'm not even putting up my list as it is very inadequate compared to everyone else's, mainly due to DH's and DD's fussiness. I would by more fruit too but it is so expensive

sunangel88 · 16/04/2010 16:42

hmm... let's see, some more less eaten veg and fruit

curly kale
choi sum (chinese leafy green veg)
taro
yams
kohl rabi
romaine lettuce - fab for caesar salad

avocadoes
mangoes - I love mangoes

LetThereBeRock · 16/04/2010 16:52

No need to feel bad Bumper. I can understand if you don't want to share your list but the purpose of it isn't to judge the eating habit's of others.
I'm very bored, and just curious to see which are the most commonly consumed fruits and vegetables and to learn of new things I can try.

Fruit can be expensive, Sainsburys occasionally does some good deals on fruit and vegetables where they do a bag of carrots, mushrooms or a bag of apples for 30pence. Aldi's has good deals also but of course these aren't of any use if you don't have these stores near you.

OP posts:
LetThereBeRock · 16/04/2010 16:53

Fussy family members certainly don't make things any easier.

My fruit list is awful. I wish I could make myself enjoy fruit more but I've tried and it doesn't work.

OP posts:
LetThereBeRock · 16/04/2010 16:56

You could always share your list of favourite fruit and vegeatbles instead not what you buy.

I think I'm going to try to force myself to eat more fruit, even if I don't enjoy it.

OP posts:
Bumperliouzzzzzz · 16/04/2010 17:02

Ok fruit:

Apples (sometimes - we have to be in the mood)
Satsumas
Bananas (always)
Grapes (if we can afford it)
Peaches/nectarines (when in season and on offer)
Strawberries (as above)
Pineapple (occasionally)

Actually I have taken to buying tinned fruit like grapefruit (which I love but find a faff to eat fresh) and mandarin and mix them up with fresh fruit. I'd buy a lot more fruit if I had the money, I love berries and mangoes.

Veg:

Carrots
Potatoes
Onions
Courgette
Frozen peas
Peppers
Spinach in the summer for salads

I love broccoli but no one else does so rarely buy it, and it isn't v nice frozen.

But we do grow our own courgettes, onions, potatoes and squash at our allotment if that increases my goodness brownie points?

bellavita · 16/04/2010 17:06

Bananas
Apples
Oranges
Plums
Strawberries
Blueberries
Always nectarines in the summer

Peppers
Lettuce
Cucumber
Leeks
Brocs
Carrots
Cabbage
Pots

We do however in the summer have our own crop of salad leaves, toms, cuc, courgettes, peppers, chillies, blackberries, potatoes apples.

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 16/04/2010 17:07

Oh, and I have seeds for spaghetti squash this year, that should be interesting, and has to up me in the mumsnet parenting stakes, even if I have never had artichoke or pak choi before

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 16/04/2010 17:08

Oh, and we buy cucumber which I love, and used to buy cherry toms until DD went off them, and again too expensive just for me (I don't really like big toms for some reason ).

LetThereBeRock · 16/04/2010 17:15

Spaghetti squash puts you right at the top I think particuarly as you're growing your own.

Do let us know how it tastes. I've always wanted to try it but I've never seen it in the stores and the thought of growing my own has never crossed my mind until now.
